Manchester United Linked With A Transfer For 14-Goal Ace: The Striker They Need

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, who has been a key player for the Cherries in their five seasons in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old is one of many British players that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targetting in what is shaping up to be a squad featuring several home-grown players.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils will have to pay somewhere in the region of £30 million to £40 million for the England international, who has scored 61 goals in 154 appearances for the Cherries, of which 36 goals have come in 96 Premier League appearances.

Wilson had his personal best Premier League season in the previous campaign, as he scored 14 goals in 30 league appearances, with his good form earning him a call-up to the England senior team.

The striker has gotten off to a strong start this season, scoring 3 goals in 5 games in the Premier League.

Wilson isn’t the only British player that United are targetting, with recent reports suggesting that the Red Devils are also interested in signing James Maddison from Leicester City and Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Is Wilson a good choice for the club?

Wilson has had quite the journey, playing for non-league sides before impressing for Coventry City and earning his move to Bournemouth. He was instrumental in the Cherries’ promotion to the Premier League, and has been a vital player for them in their battle to stay in the league as well.

The striker is a quick player who can turn defence into attack in a flash owing to his burst of speed, and moves the ball quickly from back to front in counter-attacking situations.

Wilson is a good finisher in and around the penalty area, and he also drops deep to assist his teammates. He registered 9 assists last season, same as Manchester United’s highest assist maker, Paul Pogba, and three more than Marcus Rashford.

Wilson could be a good choice for United as he has shown good form in the Premier League and would fit well in the attacking system that Solskjaer intends to play.

At 27 years of age, the English striker is just hitting his prime, and at a club like Manchester United, where he will get more chances in front of goal, he could easily deliver 15 goals a season, or even more, which would be a good return.

United need another striker to add competition for Rashford and Anthony Martial, and Wilson could be the perfect foil to the two young forwards.
