West Ham lining up a move for English international striker: A solid option for Pellegrini

West Ham United have made quite a few ambitious signings over the last few seasons, not least among them being the appointment of former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The Hammers’ management wants their side to mix it with the big boys in the top 6 and are building an attractive side. After the signature of attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals, West Ham have now turned their attention towards signing a striker.

They have been linked with the likes of Salomón RondónMoussa Marega and Emmanuel Adebayor in the last week, and are now reportedly interested in signing Callum Wilson, who currently plays for Bournemouth. The report by Daily Mirror claims that the Hammers could persuade Wilson to move to the club with a big hike in his wages.

The English striker has been with the club since 2014, helping the side gain promotion to the Premier League, and then keeping the side in the top flight. Wilson’s contract with Bournemouth expires in 2022, following his contract extension which happened last year.

The 27-year-old had a good 2018-19 season as he scored 15 goals and registered 10 assists in all competitions. He also received his first England cap in 2018 and went on to score on his debut, and has since made three appearances for his national team.

Would Callum Wilson be a good fit under Pellegrini?

Wilson has had a good few seasons with Bournemouth in the Premier League, with the 2018-19 season being his best for the side.

The striker is a quick and skilful player who is a threat on the counter-attack and is also someone who can drop in between the attack and midfield and link-up play with his neat passing.

A good finisher, Wilson has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few seasons at Bournemouth, which eventually earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s squad. Wilson is a proven Premier League goalscorer and can chip in with several assists as well.

While he may not be similar to the other strikers linked with West Ham – strong, physical players -Wilson can fit in well with the West Ham team which already has some exciting flair players like Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and new signing Pablo Fornals amongst others.
