Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has revealed in an interview with Ole that he will leave the club in the January transfer window if he does not get playing time at Old Trafford. The Argentinian defender said that playing in the Copa America for the national team was important and that he may be left out of the national team if he does not get game time at the English club.
With Rojo all but set to leave the club, which Premier League clubs could sign him?
Let’s take a look at 3 potential Premier League destinations for Marcos Rojo
Everton
The obvious choice seems to be Everton as it was the club that he was close to moving to in the summer transfer window, which Rojo himself mentioned in the interview. He said that a move to Everton could have happened, but due to some issues the deal did not go through.
Everton require another first-team centre back in their squad as their options at the heart of the defence are slim at the moment. Manager Marco Silva’s first-choice options are Yerry Mina and Michael Keane, while Mason Holgate is the third option. New signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin can play at centre back but he has been brought in as the possible successor to Idrissa Gueye. Either way, the player is currently out injured which highlights the need for another player in the defensive position.
Rojo’s experience and versatility could make him a good addition to the Everton backline.
Wolves
Another club aiming to breach the top 6, Wolves will need a strong squad this season as they will be competing in the Europa League as well. If the English club progress to the latter stages of the competition, they will need depth in their squad and a signing like Rojo will strengthen their squad in a big way.
Wolves have four first-team centre backs in Willy Boly, Conor Coady, Jesus Vallejo, and Ryan Bennett, but will probably need one more option as they play three at the back and an extra centre back could allow manager Nuno Espírito Santo to rotate his players as the ride gets bumpier.

Newcastle United
This may seem like an unlikely move, but Newcastle United have shown in the summer transfer window that they may have the transfer budget to sign new players. Rojo would fit very well in Newcastle’s 5-man defensive lineup, and with two centre backs beside him, his mistakes may not be costly, while his ball-playing skills could be fully utilised.
While there might be issues at Tyneside, the history and the footballing culture associated with the club will mean that the player will not be too averse to a move if something materialises in the coming months.
Try and keep up Nishant!
Unless this article was written weeks ago, in which case you are excused, Wolves ‘will be playing in the Europa League’ is 6 games late!
If writers are going to publish articles then:
a) Make sure they are factual and
b) Make sure they are up to date
otherwise you only look foolish and out of touch with the game!
Hey Colin,
Wolves have only played in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League. The group stage of the Europa League, which is considered by many as the actual start of the Europa League, begins on 19 September for the club.
Qualifuiers or not, it was still the Europa League!
If you meant the group stages, then say so!
Hey Colin,
That’s like calling the current Euro 2020 qualifiers as the Euro 2020 tournament. Teams have to qualify to join the main draw.
