Former PL winner says Colombian goal-getter could join Crystal Palace: The Eagles should move in

Premier League side Crystal Palace have a lot of money to spend, following the departure of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United for a fee of £45 million.

The Eagles could also see the departure of their star attacker Wilfried Zaha, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

One player that the London club could target to bolster their attack is Scottish side Rangers’ Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos, who had a fantastic 2018-19 season for the club.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard recently said that only a big transfer fee could convince them to sell Morelos, and that clubs will have to bid now and not later in the market to secure the signing of the 23-year-old.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour said on TalkSport that a club like Crystal Palace could be a decent fit for the feisty striker.

“Morelos looks like he could be off. Could he come into the Premier League? Somewhere like Crystal Palace?

“He’s a good goalscorer,” Parlous said.

In the 2018-19 season, Morelos was the top scorer in the Scottish league, ending the season with 18 goals. He scored a total of 30 goals in 48 matches, and his incredible goalscoring has attracted interest from Premier League sides.

The Colombian signed a contract extension earlier this year, with his current deal with Rangers expiring only in 2023.

Should the Eagles move in for Alfredo Morelos?

Morelos is a fantastic player, who is a proven goalscorer, and someone who can create something out of nothing with his direct running, energy, and good finishing skills.

He has drawn comparisons with another South American striker, Luis Suarez, and like the Uruguayan, Morelos too has a mean streak in him that was on evidence last year as he racked up 11 yellow cards and two red cards.

However, most mid-table clubs in the Premier League must target the 23-year-old, who could fit in very well in the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, with his goals, assists, and his aggression and never-say-die attitude.

Palace are short of goals, which could become an even bigger problem if Zaha, who was the second-highest scorer in the team with 10 goals, leaves the club ahead of the 2019-20 season.

Roy Hodgson only has Connor Wickham and Christian Benteke as his options up front, and both of them scored a combined total of two goals last season.

The departure of Michy Batshuayi and Jordan Ayew, both of whom were on loan last year, has further weakened the striking options for the former England manager.
