Manchester United cannot be happier with the way they have started their Premier League campaign this year but Jose Mourinho is still adamant that his squad needs more additions before the deadline day. This has seen him scout for some exciting stars recently and one player who is linked with a move to the club is Barcelona star, Arda Turan.
Barcelona allow Turan to leave:
Having failed to establish himself in the first team since his move to Camp Nou back in 2015, the Turkish international has been constantly linked with a move away from the club and Spanish news publication Sport now claim that the Catalan giants have told the player that he is free to leave the club before the deadline day.
Arsenal were previously readying a £30m bid for his services and have been alerted while Liverpool are also looking at him as a potential option but Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United seem to be very interested in signing him this summer. So is Turan a decent addition to the squad at Old Trafford?
Lack of chances at Barcelona:
The 30-year old was only allowed to play for the La Liga outfit in January 2016 due to a transfer ban imposed on Barcelona in 2015. However, Turan has only managed 36 league appearances for the club to date and is not expected to be in the plans of Ernesto Valverde this season.
A versatile midfielder who can also play on the flank, Turan is a hardworking, attacking minded player, whose robust play and creativity in front of goal are right up there with the best. His strength in hold up play and ability to pick out team mates, even when under pressure will make his life easier in England. He may not be the strongest in the air but his smart positioning and understanding of the game make him an all round midfielder.
He makes a number of interceptions in dangerous areas and is a player who can walk into most top squads in Europe. With 163 La Liga appearances, 32 UCL appearances and 97 international appearances for Turkey, he is an established star and a decent option for United.
Where will he fit in at Old Trafford?
The addition of Nemanja Matic has allowed Mourinho to play Paul Pogba alongside him in a 4-2-3-1 system. He is expected to stick with it unless injuries force his hand and Turan can fill in, in any of the three positions behind the main striker. The Turkish star will also help the Red Devils shift to a 4-3-3 during contingencies, where he can play in any of the floating midfield roles.
Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick are the only options for those roles in the squad at the moment and Turan will add dynamism and diversity to the lineup, that can go a long way, later in the season. But do you think Turan is someone United need at the moment?
