Barcelona have reportedly entered the race to sign Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman as speculation over the Frenchman’s future continues to grow.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Coman’s situation is being monitored by a number of top European clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Coman has just two years left on his current contract with Bayern Munich and talks over a new deal have reached an impasse. The Frenchman’s lofty wage demands have reportedly proven to be a sticking point in negotiations and Bayern could look to ship him out before he enters the final year of his deal.
Despite being just 25, Coman has won a litany of trophies. The Frenchman has lifted six Bundesliga titles and the Champions League with Bayern Munich, the Nations League with France, Serie A with Juventus and Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.
He also holds the distinction of having won a domestic league title in every season since turning professional.
Coman has made over 200 appearances for Bayern Munich in all competitions, scoring 46 goals and providing 52 assists.
Kingsley Coman to Barcelona – A smart addition to the team?
Barcelona are currently in a transition phase under new manager Xavi. The Spaniard is looking to build his team around a core of younger players, and Coman, at 25, could be a valuable long-term addition to the club.
The Frenchman will add plenty of pace, skill and creativity to the Barcelona attack. Coman is a speedy winger who likes to drive at defenders, beat them with his skill and quick feet, and cut inside to take a crack at goal. His close control and silky touch allow him to single-handedly unlock defences.
Coman averaged 1.8 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in the league last season, highlighting his output in the final third of the pitch.
Primarily a left-winger, Coman is versatile and has the ability to play anywhere along the frontline. At Barcelona, he could be the ideal replacement for Ousmane Dembele, who has struggled with injuries and form since his arrival in 2017.
A frontline of Ansu Fati, Coman and Memphis Depay at Barcelona would send shivers down the spine of opposing defences.
Coman is yet to hit his prime and if he can showcase some of his best form at Barcelona, he could make them title contenders once again.
