Aston Villa In The Race To Sign 11-Goal Forward: The Goal-Scorer They Need?

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing young Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster, who starred in the England Under-17 World Cup win in 2017.

Brewster spent last season on loan at Championship side Swansea City, where he scored 11 times in 22 appearances.

As per The Athletic, numerous sides — Sheffield United, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Burnley, Brighton, as well as Championship sides Bournemouth, Watford, Norwich City, and Swansea City — are interested in signing Brewster.

Brewster has played four times for Liverpool, but all three appearances cmae in the Cup competitions, and he is yet to make his Premier League bow.

He joined Swansea City in January 2020, and played the second half of the 2019-20 season for the Championship side.

Rhian Brewster to Aston Villa – The goal-scorer they need?

Rhian Brewster is a supremely talented young forward who has an abundance of pace, good in the air, as well as exceptional finishing ability.

The Englishman comes alive in and around the penalty box, averaging 2.5 shots on goal last season with Swansea City. He’s equally good shooting from distance, and scored a few scorchers from outside the box for Swansea City.

The 20-year-old is predominantly right-footed but is capable of shooting strongly with his left too. Liverpool rate him highly, and it is understandable why. He has the right tools to become a top-class striker; his speed, strength, and impressive shooting ability.

Brewster would be a good addition to the Aston Villa team, which just about staved relegation in the 2019-20 season. The first-choice Villa strikers, Wesley, and Mbwana Samatta, had averaged debut seasons at the club, with the former scoring just five goals in 21 appearances, while the latter scored just once in 14 Premier League appearances.

Villa’s midfield has good creativity in Jack Grealish and John McGinn, but the club needs better finishers in their team to push higher up the table next season.

Brewster’s speed and confident finishing could add something different to the attack, as the current two strikers are target men who like to play with their back to goal. The Liverpool forward could run in behind the defence, while also dropping off to pick up the ball and drive at players, which was missing last season for Villa.

It remains to be seen if Brewster will be shipped out on loan. The forward has impressed in pre-season, and will be raring to go next season. (Stats via Whoscored)
