It has been just over a month that Liverpool fought their way to their sixth Champions League trophy, but Jurgen Klopp’s men already have an eye on the upcoming campaign. The pre-season training at Melwood has commenced and most of the star players will look to make an early mark on the manager.
While Klopp will miss a few of his first-team stars who are yet to return from international duty, he does have an impressive squad of players to choose from for his pre-season games. There are several players fighting for places in the first-team squad next season, which will make this pre-season interesting for the Reds.
There are a few players who are currently outsiders to Klopp’s first team and here are three such players who need to step up and prove themselves in this pre-season to stand a chance of regular playing time in the upcoming campaign
Adam Lallana
The English international had been available for just around 20 league games in the last two seasons, missing major chunks of the two campaigns through injuries. He is now 31 and dispensable in the transfer market, making this pre-season an important one in his career. He fits into Klopp’s system well and the manager could still give him chances irrespective of his pre-season form but Lallana needs to step up and make a statement before the start of the campaign if he is to assume an important place in Liverpool’s first-team next season.
Rhian Brewster
For a while now, Liverpool fans have been fascinated with how much trust Jurgen Klopp has on the English youngster Brewster. Regarded as one of the brightest talents not just in England but also in Europe, the 19-year old was sidelined for the entire 2018-19 campaign with a nasty injury but was back fit late last season. He is now showing glimpses of genius in pre-season and will surely get his chances in the many friendlies that Liverpool will play. If he comes good, he will not only be a useful backup to the likes of Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi but will also save the club millions in cash.
Harry Wilson
Another youngster who should bring his A-game to Liverpool’s pre-season is Welsh international Harry Wilson. After a 15-goal season with Derby County on loan, Wilson is back with Klopp’s squad but is attracting interest from several clubs in England. However, the German manager is certain to give the player a chance to prove himself, which will be crucial for Wilson in shaping his future. If he shows some promise, Klopp is not one to hesitate in using him next season. So, if he can make a statement in training and pre-season games, he could turn into a real asset for Liverpool next season.
