Liverpool have reportedly been linked with a move for Werder Bremen ace Milot Rashica.
The quality in the current Liverpool squad means that Jurgen Klopp is not after star players in the transfer windows, and Rashica is someone who isn’t a household name yet but possesses a lot of potential.
A story from German news outfit Bild today claims that Liverpool are monitoring the situation of the 23-year-old and are serious about making a move for him in the summer.
He could cost around £31million, but who is Rashica and what will he bring to Anfield?
Milot Rashica – A smart find by Klopp
Relatively unknown outside of Germany, Rashica started his senior career in Kosovo, his home country. He spent three years with Vitesse in Arnhem and impressed enough for Bremen to make a move in 2018.
Rashica spent the first year in Germany fighting for a place in the first team, but last season, he improved his output in front of goal by registering nine goals and five assists, playing across the front line or even as an attacking midfielder at times.
This season, the German side have struggled in the league, and are just a point off the bottom of the table. But Rashica has easily been the best player for the club, amassing seven goals and three assists in 18 league starts.
Known for his close control and dribbling ability, the 23-year-old is a technically gifted player, who can deliver dangerous crosses even from tight spaces.
He loves a long-range goal but is effective as a playmaker just outside the box, where he can receive the ball and take on defenders.
Rashica is a busy player, is happy to press all game and it is his energy in the middle of the field that may have attracted the scouts at Anfield.
At his age, he has all the making of a world-class midfielder and playing under Klopp, he could realise his potential.
Chances at Liverpool?
While Liverpool have one of the most balanced midfields in the league, they are in danger of losing a couple of players this summer.
Adam Lallana is expected to leave on a free transfer, while Georginio Wijnaldum is yet to extend his deal with the club.
Young Curtis Jones is rated highly by Klopp and will get his chances next season but adding another option to the midfield is a must for Klopp and Rashica fits the bill perfectly.
Though Liverpool would be tempted to spend big on an established star, Rashica is a player who fits into Klopp’s system well and could be a game-changer at Anfield for years to come.
