Van Dijk & Matip In Defence: 4-5-1 Liverpool Predicted Lineup vs Lyon

After the 3-0 drubbing at Murrayfield on Sunday, Liverpool continue their pre-season this mid-week in Switzerland when they will face French giants Lyon at Stade de Geneve. The Reds have not won any of their last four pre-season friendlies this summer and Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to make sure that his side taste victory in what will be their last game before they face Manchester City in the Community Shield next week.

Lyon beat Arsenal in their last friendly, but lost their other two pre-season games, leading to this tie. Here is the team news and predicted lineup Klopp might field for this game.

Team News

The Liverpool manager revealed that Xherdan Shaqiri, Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker, Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino are back in training earlier this week. All of them could get the last half hour of this game against Lyon. Yasser Larouci is still nursing his injury while Nathaniel Clyne might not play another professional game for the rest of 2019 after an ACL injury.

PREDICTED LIVERPOOL LINEUP VS LYON (4-5-1)

Defence

Though Alisson is back, Simon Mignolet should continue under the bar in this game. The Brazilian will get his chance in the second half. Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip might be paired in central defence as Klopp will want to test the duo ahead of the game against Pep Guardiola’s men. Sadio Mane is yet to return from vacation and will miss this game.

Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold do not have backups to their first team roles and will complete the backline on the two flanks.

Midfield

Jurgen Klopp has stuck with a five-man midfield in the last two games and could do the same against Manchester City. So he is expected to continue with a similar setup in this game as well.

Fabinho will play in the deepest of the midfield roles while James Milner and Jordan Henderson will add some mettle to the midfield.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will play in a free role in attack while Georginio Wijnaldum will play in an advanced role, but will also drop back when needed and add some cover to his midfield.

Attack

With Salah and Firmino back, time is running out for Divock Origi to prove himself as a first-team option. The Belgian will, however, get another chance to impress Klopp this week and is expected to lead the line for Liverpool against Lyon in this game.
