One of the stars of last year’s Championship season was Liverpool’s Harry Wilson, who was on loan at Derby County.
His impressive season has generated interest from several Premier League clubs, with Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth now keen on signing the Welshman.
The Cherries join the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United in their pursuit of the 22-year-old winger.
The Sun are reporting that Bournemouth are willing to pay as much as £25 million for Wilson, £10 million more than what Villa were rumoured to bid.
The report further states that Howe wants to add competition to the wide areas, which was occupied by Ryan Fraser and David Brooks last season, both of whom were impressive.
Wilson had a fantastic 2018-19 season for Derby County, scoring 18 goals and 6 assists in 49 games for the club, helping the side reach the Championship play-off final.
The youngster has four years remaining on his current Liverpool contract, having signed a new contract last season. The 22-year-old has already made 11 appearances for the Welsh national team, having made his debut back in 2013 as a 16-year-old.
Should Bournemouth take a risk by signing Wilson?
Wilson is a talented footballer, who could become a very good player in the Premier League in the next few years, but paying £25 million for a youngster who has never played in the Premier League or top-flight football is a risk.
Some may argue that £25 million isn’t even a big sum in the current inflated transfer market, even more so if it is for a young, hungry, technically-gifted player like Wilson.
The Welshman, who can play on the left or right, has a superb left foot with good crossing and passing ability, as well as very good shooting ability from distance which he showcased last season for Derby County.
Howe used David Brooks on the right side last season, but Brooks is better in the hole behind the striker rather than on the right, which is where Wilson could fit in.
Wilson would form an exciting trio of attacking players in the Bournemouth starting XI alongside Brooks and Ryan Fraser.
Bournemouth have an exciting, young squad that could breach the top 10 once again, and Wilson could certainly help them achieve that. So, even at £25 million, he is a risk worth taking.
