Belgian national team manager Roberto Martinez believes Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku needs a new challenge, and we couldn’t agree more.
Martinez emphasised that Lukaku needs something new, and that he wants the forward to be happy.
Here is an excerpt from what Martinez said: “Romelu is ready for something new.
“I’m not worried about ‘Rom’ – he can play anywhere and is always good with the Red Devils – but I want my players to be happy,” Martinez was quoted as saying by Belgian website HLN.
Big Rom as many like to call the 26-year-old, managed 15 goals and 4 assists across all competitions last season, but as Manchester United ended trophy-less for the second year in a row.
Why Romelu Lukaku should leave Manchester United
The Belgian made the move from Everton to Manchester United for a massive £75 million fee back in the summer of 2017, and is yet to replicate his Everton form at Old Trafford.
Lukaku, who was an untouchable under ex-manager Jose Mourinho, has seen his role limited to the bench under the current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian manager prefers his attack to be more mobile, and because of that Marcus Rashford often got the nod ahead of the Belgian International.
Rashford’s qualities are different from Lukaku, and he seems a better fit in Solskjaer’s system.
A potential move to Inter Milan – a club who have been linked with the Belgian — makes more sense seeing Antonio Conte will manage them next season. The Italian manager who is fond of the Red Devils striker, and tried to sign him back in 2017 when he was the manager of Chelsea.
Lukaku’s strength, ability to hold the ball and link-up play could make him a bigger threat in the Serie A which is more tactical than the Premier League.
The Belgian is at a stage of his career where he needs to step up, or be remembered as a striker who could have been something special. At times like these, a player needs a manager who shows faith in him, and gives him the confidence to thrive.
Considering the situation at Old Trafford, Lukaku also needs a new challenge as he is perhaps just one bad game away from making all the wrong headlines at Manchester United.
A change of clubs sounds like a win-win situation and could pay dividends for all the parties involved.
