Manchester United are plotting a summer move for Paulo Dybala, and are ready to offer Romelu Lukaku in exchange for the Argentinian attacker.
According to Mirror, the Red Devils have identified Dybala as one of their top summer targets, and are willing to include Lukaku — who has had a subpar spell since his big-money move to Old Trafford — as part of the deal in an attempt to sweeten the Argentine’s reported price-tag of £100 million.
Why Manchester United should sign Paulo Dybala
Manchester United have enjoyed a rich vein of form under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has been able to reinvigorate the midfield and attack that has ultimately led to the team creating more chances in the final third.
However, with Lukaku struggling to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, the Red Devils have appeared overly reliant on the services of Marcus Rashford in terms of attacking productivity.
Additionally, the likes of Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard have failed to make themselves a regular fixture in the United first team and as the Premier League giants look to compete with the very best next season, it won’t be surprising to see them shipping out at least one of the aforementioned players in the summer.
Dybala would appear as the perfect upgrade in attack, thanks to a wide range of skill set that could help him thrive at Old Trafford.
For one, the Argentine international is an excellent carrier of the ball, and his sublime dribbling ability allows him to drift past defenders and create more opportunities for his team in the team third.
Dybala has averaged 2 successful dribbles per game while his tally of 2.3 key passes per game is better than any other Manchester United player this season. Furthermore, Dybala is also a threat from long-range, with 50% of his shots coming from outside of the box this season.
However, what makes Dybala such an appealing target for the Red Devils is his versatility as the 25-year-old, predominantly a secondary striker, can also operate as a centre-forward as well as a number nine.
Thus, it would be easier to accommodate the Argentine into United’s attacking unit without altering the roles of the existing attackers, making him a tailor-made fit for the Red Devils as they aim to compete with the likes Manchester City and Liverpool next season.
