Marouane Fellaini’s late winner at Old Trafford against Arsenal means that they need three points from their last three league games to guarantee a 2nd place finish in the points table this season. They will look to get the work done tonight when they travel to Falmer Stadium to take on Chris Hughton’s Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Seagulls are winless in their last five league games but are five points off the drop zone and are relatively comfortable. They will want to end the season on a strong note and will look to test United in this clash. But Mourinho’s men have been in decent form, losing just one of their last 8 league games and are firm favourites to take all three points from this game. The result has no real bearing on the final points table but here is the predicted lineup Mourinho might field in search of a victory:
Team News:
The Red Devils are still without the services of Sergio Romero, who is a long-term absentee. Phil Jones is recovering from a knock and might make the squad while Romelu Lukaku, who limped off at the end of the game against Arsenal, will miss out in all likeliness.
Expected lineup (4-2-3-1):
Defence:
David de Gea is the Player of the Year for The Red Devils yet again and he will look to put in a performance that does justice to the tag. He will start under the bar and will be helped by Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof, both of who started the game against The Gunners last weekend.
Antonio Valencia is a regular at right-back and will start there while Ashley Young will add some guile to the backline at left-back.
Midfield:
Ander Herrera has only been used for crunch clashes this season and might lose his place this weekend. Nemanja Matic, one of the most consistent midfielders in the league at the moment, will start alongside Paul Pogba in a two-man midfield for this trip to Falmer Stadium.
Attack:
With Lukaku doubtful, young Marcus Rashford is expected to get a chance to lead the line against Brighton. He will be supported by Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to start in a no.10 role.
Anthony Martial came off the bench against The Gunners but might be given a start in this game on the left flank in attack while Jesse Lingard, who came off in that game, should keep his place on the right wing.
Here is how they might line up:
