Former Spurs Midfielder Has Inside Scoop On Arsenal’s Contract Conundrum

Arsenal have started their new season in the Premier League in arguably the worst possible manner. After losing 2-0 against Manchester City in their opening fixture, they were beaten 3-2 by Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge yesterday and there is no denying that Unai Emery has to find solutions to fix the latent loopholes before it gets too late.

One of the major headaches for Emery at the moment is the contractual situation of midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh star’s contract is due to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign and a new deal is yet to be churned. Arsenal are reluctant to let him run down the current contract and are trying really hard to ink an extension.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermain Jenas believes that Ramsey is not putting his pen on a new deal because he is keen to play further up the pitch and that money is not a factor. He further stated that it is the 27-year-old, who is stalling the fresh agreement since May, wants a guarantee over his position at the club.

Speaking to BT Sport, Jenas said: “The fact Ramsey hasn’t signed – you can’t tell me there has not been a conversation along the lines of ‘what is it, then, that you want?’ Because he isn’t a greedy person. I think Ramsey just wants to play in the position he wants to be. I think he wants to play higher up, but I’m not sure if it suits him.”
