Just days before Liverpool travel to Rome for the 2nd leg of the semi-finals of the Champions League this season, the club has announced that star striker Roberto Firmino has agreed to a new deal with Liverpool. This comes as a huge boost for the Reds, who have now drawn three of their last four league games.
Firmino Now The Highest Earner At Liverpool
The second top goal scorer for Liverpool this season, Firmino is often referred to as the heartbeat of Jurgen Klopp’s system at Anfield. And the club have today announced that Liverpool’s no.9 has agreed on a new long-term deal, without a release clause.
His previous deal with the Anfield giants saw him earn £120,000-a-week+ bonuses and it is reported that Firmino will now earn £180,000-a-week over the five years he pledged his career to the club. How big a move, is this for the Reds?
Firmino And His Affinity To Liverpool
Signing ‘We Are Liverpool’ on Instagram videos to constantly speaking about how big and close to heart the club is to him, Firmino has always been loyal to the Red of Merseyside and it not too much of an exaggeration to say that this is exactly the kind of a relationship Liverpool need from their players.
The Reds lost Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona recently at a time when both players were pretty crucial to the team. Now Firmino is as crucial if not more and it is only a positive that he has reassured his future to the fans.
An embodiment of what Klopp wants from his players, Firmino is a machine who never gives up. While his finishing only seems to improve, his pressing and ability to nick balls off in dangerous areas makes him that much more effective.
He has 26 goals and 13 assists in 48 appearances for Liverpool and has scored more goals than any player in his debut season in the UCL. To add it, his tackles won and interceptions made stats are right up there with the best midfielders in Europe, showing how effective he is to the system as a whole at Anfield.
His goals can be replaced but what he does for the team is nigh impossible to replace and Liverpool should be ecstatic that he is ready to spend his prime as a footballer at Merseyside. At just 26, he is sure to be a top player for Liverpool for years to come.
How Will It Affect Liverpool?
In the short-term, it will give the Reds a lift before their trip to Rome. The tie is not done yet and Liverpool will have to work really hard to earn their ticket to Kiev. However, this news will certainly improve the affinity in the squad and could help them at Stadio Olimpico.
But in the long term, it will mean that Liverpool will now have to offer similar wages to their star players in Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Salah earns around £100,000-a-week and it is understood that Liverpool are already readying a new deal for both their which will come as a more good news for the Anfield faithful.
This move has no real adversities and could be a game changer for years to come.
