West Ham United have made some notable acquisitions this summer under the stewardship of Slaven Bilic. The Hammers have brought in the likes of Javier Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic, Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta but after the 4-0 thrashing which they received at the hands of Manchester United at the Old Trafford in their first league game of the season, their frailties have been left exposed by the humiliating loss.
The Red Devils won the midfield battle against the London based club and it goes without saying that West Ham United lacked the resilience which was required to withstand the pressure which Jose Mourinho’s troops had on offer. The summer transfer window is still far from it closure and one of the latest reports have stated that the Hammers are closing in on a deal to lure William Carvalho to the London Stadium for a £30million transfer fee, and this deal might turn the tables in their favour.
Carvalho emerged through the youth ranks of Algueirao, Mira Sintra and Sporting CP, and was eventually promoted to the senior side of the Lions. He was farmed out on loan to a couple of sides in the shapes of Fatima and Cercle Brugge and having proved his mettle, he has now cemented his place in the Sporting CP side. He is a player of notable calibre and would inject the element of resilience and grit which is the dire need of the hour for West Ham United.
The Portuguese international has a release clause of £40million, but West Ham aren’t willing to pay the aforesaid amount. The Premier League outfit have already seen their bid of £27million getting rejected by the Green and Whites earlier this summer and as the reports state, they have dished out a new offer of £30million. Jorge Jesus has already signed Rodrigo Battaglia as an implied replacement for Carvalho who is believed to be heading towards the exit route.
The 25-year-old is an excellent passer and orchestrates the midfield with relative ease. He is an excellent dribbler and reads the game in a shrewd manner which makes him an appealing commodity for any top quality side. Besides, he tackles well, breaks the attacking endeavours coming from the opposition and doesn’t refrain from getting into intense physical battles. He was one of the standout performers for the Portuguese national side which clinched Euro 2016 and thus, will uplift the quality of Bilic’s side.
