Huddersfield Town carved the status of a Premier League outfit for themselves as they defeated Reading in the finals of the 2016-17 Championship season. The Terries, under the tutelage of David Wagner, with their sheer perseverance and grit, managed to cross the line and would have the privilege of playing in the cash-rich league alongside the elite English clubs.
According to a report, Huddersfield Town are closely monitoring the prospect of luring Reims defender, Julian Jeanvier to the Kirklees Stadium as their first signing after securing promotion.
Strengthening the quality of their defence would be important and the 45-year-old is presumed to be all set to do the needful, for his apparent interest in Jeanvier makes complete sense.
Jeanvier emerged on the scene with Nancy and was eventually signed by Lille, wherefrom he cultivated a couple of decent loan spells. It was after making a move to Reims that the 25-year-old rose to prominence, having played 26 games, bagging 3 goals and getting his name inked in the Ligue 2 Team of the Year owing to his fantastic form throughout the season in the French second division.
Tall, strong and with a daunting frame, Jeanveir is a right footed defender who is predominantly a centre-back but can work efficiently when stationed at the right-back slot as well as he passes the ball really well out of the tight areas with his unfazed attitude.
He is very capable on the ball and is a calm and composed customer at the back. The French-born defender has the requisite pace in his legs and no wonder why he has fallen on the radar of the former Borussia Dortmund II manager.
Jeanvier is not very shrewd with his tackles as he mistimed quite a few times last term, but he is unarguably a brilliant interceptor and churns stupendous interceptions out at the right moments.
Moreover, he is aerially very sound and despite being a defender, he has the tendency to score as well which makes him an appealing commodity. Instead, he used his tree-like body as well his technical edge to contribute his part in ensuring that no harm is done to his employers.
The Terries are seemingly likely to get him for cheap and considering Wagner’s tendency to operate with a high-pressure play, a central defender like Jeanvier would be an astute acquisition.
He would certainly elevate the quality of their squad and despite his lack of experience of playing in the Premier League, he is a risk which Wagner can certainly afford to take.
