After a tumultuous campaign last time, Rangers brought Steven Gerrard on board to steer the club in the right direction. The process of the revolution started with good use of the summer transfer window as the former Liverpool skipper left no stone unturned to revamp the arsenal which he had inherited.
At the moment, the Gers are placed at the 6th spot in the Scottish Premiership standings with 14 points to their name after eight games. Further, they are top in their group in the UEFA Europa League. So, it has been a reasonably good start for them though Gerrard will look to climb up the table in the coming weeks.
Here we will take a look at their Top 3 performers so far this season.
Alfredo Morelos
Colombian international Alfredo Morelos has been providing the kind of attacking contribution which his side needs to win trophies this season. He has plundered eight goals and has also registered six assists in 20 appearances across all competitions so far this campaign, and he needs to keep his form going if the Gers are to achieve anything substantial this season.
In the last league fixture, where Rangers secured a thumping 3-1 win over Heart of Midlothian, the 22-year-old found the back of the net with a back-heel which showed his confidence and belief, something which the team will need in abundance in the months to come.
James Tavernier
Rangers full-back James Tavernier has been one of the finest players for the club, and he has dazzled so far this campaign as well. The 26-year-old had a scintillating outing against Rapid Vienna, which earned him a place in UEFA’s Europa League team of the week as well.
He followed that up with a stirring display against Hearts in the weekend Scottish Premiership game. With six goals and eight assists already this term, the right-back has made a positive mark. He has been relentless on the right flank and has been growing in stature with every passing game.
Connor Goldson
The back line was the most significant area of concern for Gerrard during the summer transfer window, and he did an excellent job by luring four central defenders to the Ibrox Stadium, including Connor Goldson. From what has transpired so far this season, Goldson has proven to be one of the top signings by Gerrard.
The 25-year-old defender has been calm and confident, and apart from his exceptional ability to read the opposition, he has lent his leadership quality which has led to new found defensive solidity in their ranks.
