Manchester United have started their Premier League campaign in a rather indifferent way, having lost twice and won the same number of times in the four matches so far.
After two consecutive losses, they returned to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Burnley before heading to the international break. United will look to bring some stability to their campaign against Watford.
Manchester United Team News
Phil Jones had limped off in United’s defeat to Spurs and could miss out against Watford. Luke Shaw, who arguably has been the team’s best performer so far, might be rested in precaution due to his concussion.
Marcus Rashford is suspended for three matches due to his headbutt on Phil Bardsley during the tie against Burnley.
Predicted Manchester United Lineup
Defence
David de Gea is the undisputed starter between the sticks for United and he will be keen on adding some more clean sheets to his name.
New signing, Diogo Dalot could get his first start having trained with the squad in the past few weeks. He even played a match for United’s U-23 side against Stoke City and was fairly impressive. Ashley Young could start in the left-back role if Mourinho deems it is too risky to play Shaw.
Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof could start as the two centre-halves. The two played quite well against Burnley before the international break.
Midfield
Nemanja Matic will provide the composure and defensive cover in midfield. He made three clearances against Sean Dyche’s side and also did well with his distribution from midfield.
The duo of Fred and Paul Pogba could flank Matic on either side in the midfield. United’s midfielders have to bring consistency to their gameplay in order to avoid any further hiccups going ahead in the campaign.
Attack
Jesse Lingard’s off-the-ball movement and dynamism from the right flank is something United need. Mata has been too static there, so expect Lingard to start. Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez will complete the forward line.
The Belgian forward will lead the line and look to further capitalise on the chances presented to him. Despite scoring a brace in the last game, he missed a host of chances in the games before and needs to improve in that aspect.
Sanchez looked energetic, fluid and creative in United’s clash against Burnley. He provided an assist for Lukaku and needs to keep his good form going if United are to string a few more wins together.
