According to a recent report by BBC, Celtic have made an official bid to acquire the services of Hibernian midfielder, John McGinn this summer. McGinn has just a year left on his current contract which confines him to the Easter Road and the report further states that Celtic’s Scott Allan, who enjoyed a productive loan spell with the Hibs last season, could be a part of Celtic’s bid to sign McGinn.
The Bhoys reportedly saw their bid of £1.5million getting rejected by Hibernian earlier this week but it is unlikely that Celtic would face defeat in their pursuit of luring him to the Celtic Park. The youngster was absent during his side’s thumping 6-0 win over Berwick Rangers at Shielfield, although he is expected to face Blackburn on Sunday in Paul Hanlon’s testimonial.
And to intensify matters, Rodgers was uncharacteristically forthcoming while talking on the current negotiations.
Under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers, the Glasgow giants continued to dazzle in the domestic competitions last season. They stamped their domestic superiority once again as they clinched the domestic treble. However, the former Liverpool boss must be aiming to bolster his side’s credentials in Europe and in order to do the same, he needs more quality in his ranks.
McGinn has the potential to turn out to be a decent coup for the Celts. He has been the driving force in the midfield for Hibernian for quite some time now and unarguably, he is one of the hottest properties in Scottish football at this stroke of hour. Having started his youth career with St Mirren, he was elevated to their senior side and eventually moved to the ranks of the Cabbages in the summer of 2015.
The 23-year-old is a shrewd passer of the ball and his knack to maraud forward and get to the edge of the box makes him a dangerous proposition. He is quick, energetic and loves to dictate the tempo of the game from the middle of the park. Besides, he constantly tries to make his presence felt in the game and links up with his teammates meticulously. Moreover, he is someone who is determined and hungry to make the most of the opportunities he receives.
The lack of required experience of plying his trade in the top division might be a cause of concern for Celtic while they assess McGinn. Nonetheless, Rodgers has an inclination to work with blossoming youngsters and under his guidance, the Scottish international should be able to brush himself further, provided the prospective deal eventually materializes.
