Fiorentina starlet Dusan Vlahovic has reportedly emerged as a key target for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the January transfer window.
Antonio Conte has now managed two games after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo as the Spurs manager, beating Vitesse in the Europa League Conference and drawing 0-0 with Everton in the Premier League. Many names have been linked since Conte was appointed, as the north London club look to end their drought for silverware under the Italian tactician.
According to Italian outlet La Nazione, Tottenham must splash a fee in the region of £60million in order to beat Arsenal to the signing of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. The report adds Fiorentina are ready to sell their star striker in the January window after he rejected a new contract offer last month.
Dusan Vlahovic, 21, is rated as one of Europe’s top strikers after establishing himself as Fiorentina’s leading marksman since the beginning of last season. He netted 21 goals in 37 appearances in all competitions last term and has carried on his goal-scoring success in the ongoing campaign with eight goals in 12 Serie A outings.
The Serbian international’s rich goal-scoring exploits in Italy has piqued the interest of a host of clubs, including Tottenham, as Antonio Conte seems set to add to his options in the striking department.
Dusan Vlahovic to Tottenham—Is he worth the big fee?
Tottenham’s problems at the top end of the pitch have been well documented this season. The north Londoners have managed only nine goals in 11 appearances, with talismanic striker Harry Kane scoring just one Premier League goal so far. With his much hyped transfer to Manchester City failing in the summer, Kane, 28, has been a shadow of his former self since the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign.
Son Heung-min is the leading goal-scorer with four in 10 outings but with the South Korean failing to find support from the likes of Kane, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura, a new striker in the upcoming transfer window would be a good move for Spurs. In that regard, Dusan Vlahovic would be a terrific addition to the Spurs attack.
With nine goals in all competitions, including a hat-trick against Spezia in Serie A last weekend, Vlahovic has since proven that he’s not a one-season wonder. Standing at 6ft 3ins tall, he is strong, powerful and potent in the air with great ball control and hold-up play. The Serbian has decent pace to burn and possesses the ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities in the box.
In Dusan Vlahovic, Conte will be dealt with an ideal attacking weapon up front who can not only find the back of the net but also work hard off the ball, harry and hassle defenders and chip in with crucial assists. At the age of 21, the former Partizan Belgrade man has room to grow and given the raw talent he possesses, he certainly has the potential to become the face of the Spurs attack for the best part of the next decade.
Thus, Tottenham should definitely splash the cash to sign Vlahovic as early as January, because, given the cut-throat competition, it might be impossible to sign the highly-rated talent in the summer.
