Tottenham Hotspur eye a £20million transfer for Spanish ace – A good fit under Conte?

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is reportedly keen on making Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore his first signing at the north London club.

According to the Telegraph, Conte is looking to add fresh faces to his side in January and has set his sights on the Spain international.

The explosive winger, whose current contract expires in 2023, could be available for as cheap as £20 million in the January transfer window.

Traore has blown hot and cold during his time at Wolves. He has made 151 appearances for the club in all competitions since arriving from Middlesbrough in 2018, scoring 10 goals and providing 18 assists.

But he has struggled to find his best form under Bruno Lage this season and the Portuguese is reportedly open to selling him to fund moves for other players.

According to the report, Tottenham could face competition from West Ham United for Traore’s signature.

Why Adama Traore would be a good fit at Tottenham Hotspur under Conte

On his day, Adama Traore is one of the hardest players to contain in the Premier League. His explosive pace, dribbling ability and strength make him extremely hard to dispossess and he has the ability to burst past defenders and deliver crosses into the box. He also tends to earn fouls in dangerous areas.

Last season, Traore averaged 4.1 dribbles and was fouled 2.3 times per game.

The Spaniard is also versatile and can be used in multiple positions. He has featured as a wing-back in the past as well as a lone striker, in addition to his primary role on the right wing. He is not the greatest of defenders but his attacking output cannot be questioned.

Spurs manager Antonio Conte generally employs wing-backs to complement his three-man backline and Traore could be a smart addition in that sense.

Spurs’ current wing-back options are Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty, both of whom have flattered to deceive this season. Traore would undoubtedly be an upgrade on the two from an attacking standpoint.

Moreover, Conte likes his teams to counter-attack with speed and Traore could be a perfect outlet. Traore showed the impact he can make when he came off the bench to play a key role in Wolves’ goal against Manchester United on Monday. That’s the kind of quality you need in the squad to challenge for the top four.

At just £20 million, Traore could be a fantastic long-term option and Spurs should jump at the chance to sign the speedy winger.
