Everton are looking to freshen up their squad in the January transfer window and could reportedly make a move for Juventus outcast Aaron Ramsey.
According to Goal, Juventus are keen to get the Welsh midfielder off their books sooner rather than later, and Everton are among the clubs interested in making a move.
Ramsey has struggled to find his feet in Serie A ever since his move from Arsenal in 2019. Injuries and a lack of form have limited his game time in Turin and he has made just 70 appearances for the club in all competitions.
A large chunk of those have come off the bench and the 30-year-old is now keen on a change in scenery to gain more playing time.
Ramsey has two years left on his current contract with Juventus.
What would Aaron Ramsey add to Everton?
Everton have not made a great start to the season under Rafa Benitez and find themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League table after 11 games. They need reinforcements in January if they are to move up the table and potentially challenge for a European spot.
The Merseyside outfit look quite light in midfield. Abdoulaye Doucoure’s injury has hit them particularly hard, with the midfielder set for an extended spell on the sidelines. In Doucoure’s absence, the likes of Fabian Delph and Tom Davies have both been used in central midfield without much success.
Everton could do with a player like Aaron Ramsey. When fit, the Welshman is a world-class midfielder who has the ability to drive at defenders with the ball, run into spaces and link up well with his attackers. At Everton, he could play alongside Allan in central midfield or perhaps in a more advanced role just behind the striker.
The 30-year-old has fantastic vision and passing range that help him unlock tight defences. He also has a knack for scoring goals, netting 65 times during his spell with Arsenal. Ramsey is versatile and can play anywhere across the midfield. He is also extremely hard-working off the ball and can press high up the pitch and also drop back to shield his defence.
Ramsey would add experience, technical ability and energy to the Everton side, but his salary could prove to be a sticking point in negotiations. The Welshman reportedly earns around €7 million a year and it remains to be seen if Everton are willing to shell out that much for a player who is nearing 31.
