Ramsey to Start – Team News, Predicted 4-2-3-1 Rangers Lineup vs Red Star Belgrade

Rangers will continue their quest for their second European trophy against Red Star Belgrade in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are riding a wave of momentum and confidence following their stunning upset of Borussia Dortmund in the previous round.

But they will need to prepare for another stern test against Red Star, who have lost just one of their last 15 Europa League ties and are second in their domestic league.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2007.

Rangers Team News

Aaron Ramsey is pushing for a start after shaking off his injury problems. The Welshman made the bench against Aberdeen but did not feature.

Amad Diallo is a major doubt and will be assessed before kickoff, while Steven Davis is unavailable.

Filip Helander also faces a race against time to prove his fitness, while Nnamdi Ofoborh and Ianis Hagi remain sidelined.

Rangers predicted lineup vs Red Star Belgrade (4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper

After conceding in six straight games, Allan McGregor has managed two successive clean sheets and will continue in goal for Rangers against Red Star.

Defenders

Captain James Tavernier scored twice in the second leg against Dortmund to help them advance and he will start at right-back once again.

Borna Barisic returned after a two-game absence against Aberdeen and turned in a decent performance. He should keep his spot on the left.

Connor Goldson and Calvin Bassey will likely form the Rangers centre-back pairing for this game. Goldson has made a whopping 33 clearances in the Europa League this season, while Bassey is an exciting young talent.

Midfielders

John Lundstram did not start against Aberdeen but he should return to the Rangers lineup for this game. He will, in all likelihood, partner Glen Kamara in central midfield. Ryan Jack is another option for van Bronckhorst, but the Dutchman might not want to risk him given he has only just returned from injury.

If Ramsey is fully fit, he could start in the No. 10 role, replacing the impressive Joe Aribo. The Welshman has only started one game for the Scottish champions since his arrival from Juventus.

Attackers

Ryan Kent is Rangers’ most dynamic player and will start on the left flank. The Englishman struggles with consistency, but when he’s on form, he’s a threat to any defence in the competition.

Alfredo Morelos will lead the line once again. The Colombian is Rangers’ top-scorer with 18 goals in all competitions, but he’s not found the net in his last five games.

Scott Arfield will round out the attack, replacing Fashion Sakala on the right.
