Juventus are willing to sell Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey, and his former club Arsenal could be in the running to re-sign him. The 30-year-old has been at the Italian club for two seasons since moving from north London, making 65 appearances in all competitions.
Calciomercato have claimed that Juventus are set to have discussions with Ramsey’s representatives about a potential sale.
Arsenal has been linked with a move for Ramsey, while West Ham United and Crystal Palace are also interested in signing him. The report states that Ramsey’s salary of €7 million could hinder his return to the Emirates.
Juventus want a fee of €15 million for the Welsh international whose current contract with the club expires in 2023.
Should Arsenal make a move to sign Aaron Ramsey?
Aaron Ramsey has had a difficult stint at Juventus as injuries, as well as tough competition for places, has resulted in him being used as a bit-part player. The Welshman has shown at Euro 2020 that he still has the ability to be a threat in attack, be it scoring or setting up goals.
The experienced midfielder has been a leader in the middle of the park for Wales, contributing in both attack and defence and showing that he still has it to be a top player.
Ramsey, the above report claims, is keen on returning to the Premier League, and a return to the Gunners could be a good move for him and the club. The north London club could be active in the transfer market to add a few players to the squad, while a few could also leave the club. Arsenal need to sign a few midfielders in the summer as they don’t have the depth or a lot of quality in that position.
Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard have both returned to Real Madrid and it’s unlikely that they will return to Arsenal. Granit Xhaka could be on his way out as he has been linked with a move to AS Roma. This leaves manager Mikel Arteta with just two first-team midfielders in Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny. The former could be a first-choice midfielder for the Gunners next season, while the latter is, at best, a squad player.
The addition of Aaron Ramsey would give the Gunners a goal threat from midfield, and also add experience and creativity from the middle of the park. The Welshman is a versatile player who can play in central midfielder or attacking midfield, while also capable of playing as a wide player.
The Gunners need a few more experienced players in the squad and a few more goal-scoring threats. Ramsey fits the bill and with him having a solid Euro 2020 tournament, he has shown that he still has the quality to deliver at the top level.
