Newcastle United Hoping To Sign Norwegian Goal-Getter: A Good Option For Bruce?

Newcastle United have reportedly been linked with a move for Bournemouth striker Joshua King.

King is one of several Bournemouth stars who could leave the club following their relegation to the Championship.

As per The Telegraph, Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is interested in signing not just King, but also his teammate David Brooks.

Newcastle United reportedly have a transfer budget of just around £30 million, as the takeover bid failed, and need to make smart signings once again.

King, who joined the club from Blackburn Rovers in 2015, has played 167 times for Bournemouth, scoring 50 goals for the club. The Norwegian’s contract with the club expires at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Joshua King – A good option for Newcastle United?

With Newcastle United’s takeover falling through, Magpies fans should expect a quiet summer in the transfer window, with perhaps a few loan signings and bargains.

Newcastle are currently weak in several areas of the pitch, and they will also have to let go of certain fringe players and trim their squad, before they can sign new players.

The Magpies have to strengthen their attack as their current options, Joelinton and Andy Carroll, scored just two goals between them in the 2019-20 Premier League season.

In fact, the top-scorer for the Magpies in the league was midfielder Jonjo Shelvey with just 6 goals. Newcastle need a striker who can rack up at least 10 goals in the league, if they want to survive the Premier League next season.

Joshua King could be a decent buy for the Magpies. The former Manchester United forward is quick and likes to take on defenders with his confident dribbling and pace.

The Norwegian is a good link player, who can drop deep and bring the ball from midfield into the attacking areas. He has pace that the likes of Joelinton and Carroll do not possess, while also having great work-rate.

He could be a threat in counter-attacking situations, which is how Newcastle United have set-up under Steve Bruce. With the Premier League experience that he possesses, a decent goal-scoring record, and his style of play suiting Newcastle United, Joshua King could be a good option for the Magpies and their manager.
