3 Reasons Why Arsenal Should Re-Sign This All-Action Midfield Ace | Opinion

A few days ago, Italian giants Juventus announced that their former player Andrea Pirlo will replace manager Maurizio Sarri at the club.

It seems that the Italian legend has quickly gone to work to make changes at the club as he has reportedly told the Juventus board about the players that he doesn’t want at the club.

One name that features in this list, as per Mirror Football, is former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, a player the Gunners could do with next season.

The Welsh international joined Juventus on a free transfer ahead of the 2019-20 season, but he had an average season, mostly being used off the bench for the club.

With Ramsey set to be sold by Juventus, let’s take a look at 3 reasons why Arsenal should re-sign him:

3 reasons why Arsenal should re-sign Aaron Ramsey

#3 Replacement for Mesut Ozil

Arsenal fans were unhappy when Ramsey left the Gunners last year, but they still had hope that they could do well as they had a certain Mesut Ozil.

On his day, Ozil can trouble any defence with his defence-splitting passes and creativity, so many fans presumed his presence would soften the blow received by Ramsey’s departure.

But, that hasn’t been the case as the German has struggled at the club, and has not featured much since the arrival of Mikel Arteta as the manager.

It’s quite certain that the Spanish manager does not want Ozil, despite the German earning a lot of money. If the Gunners can somehow move Ozil out of the club, they could sign a readymade replacement in Ramsey, who Arteta will know very well, having played alongside him in the Arsenal midfield.

#2 Goals from midfield

One aspect of Aaron Ramsey’s game that Arsenal fans loved was his goal-scoring ability from midfield.

Ramsey consistently contributed goals almost pretty much every season, racking up 64 goals in 369 appearances, which is a good return for a midfielder.

In the 2019-20 season, the highest-scoring central midfielder for the Gunners was Joe Willock with 5 goals, of which just one came in the Premier League.

The Gunners need a goal-scoring midfielder to take the burden off Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

#3 Work-rate and versatility

The Gunners midfield has, at times, not only lacked creativity, but also drive and work-rate in midfield.

Quite a few times Arsenal’s games have been lost in the middle of the park. Ramsey would add tremendous work-rate to the midfield, as well as vast experience.

The Welshman is also a versatile player who can play in more than one position. Ramsey thrives in the attacking midfield position, but can also play in the defensive midfield position, or out wide on either wing.

With Arteta playing a few different formations, an experienced and versatile player like Arteta could give him a lot of options.
