Chelsea‘s penultimate game of the Premier League season will see them travel to Anfield to face Liverpool, who will be crowned champions on the same night.
The Blues will look to spoil the champions’ party, and help solidify their top 4 place in the league, and open up a gap over Leicester City.
Frank Lampard’s men head into this game after a dominant performance against an in-form Manchester United side in the FA Cup.
Liverpool were beaten by Arsenal in their last league game, and will look to put that out of their system with a win, so Lampard’s side could be up against it.
Chelsea Team News
The two absentees for Chelsea for the game against Liverpool will be N’Golo Kante and Billy Gilmour. Apart from these two, Lampard has everyone else available for selection.
Let’s take a look at the possible Chelsea team that Lampard could put out against Liverpool.
Predicted Chelsea Lineup vs Liverpool
Goalkeeper
Willy Caballero had a quiet game against Manchester United, and it will be interesting to see if Lampard retains him in the Chelsea lineup ahead of Kepa.
Caballero has played just 4 times in the league this season, with the last of those league appearances coming back in February. Kepa could just edge it and keep his place.
Defence
Lampard could switch from his three-man defence to a conventional four-man defence for the game against Liverpool.
Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger will likely start at the heart of the defence, while captain Cesar Azpilicueta could go back to the left-back position. Reece James should hold onto the right-back slot in the Chelsea lineup.
Midfield
The midfield could see Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic hold on to their places in the starting XI, while Mason Mount could move back from the wide area to the midfield position. The likes of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are other options in the middle.
Liverpool’s midfield are perhaps the best in the league in terms of pressing, so the Chelsea midfield trio will have their work cut out tonight.
Attack
Mount moving into midfield would mean that Christian Pulisic – who didn’t play a single minute in the win against Manchester United – will return to the Chelsea lineup.
Olivier Giroud, who troubled the Manchester United backline consistently, should lead the line once again. Willian should also keep his place in the starting XI on the right-hand side.
