Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain this summer, as per reports.
Higuain, currently at Juventus, would, however, be required to agree to a hefty decrease in his wages if he is to return to the Premier League as reported by TuttoJuve.
The prolific goalscorer earning £130,000-a-week in Turin will see his wages cut down to £80,000-a-week as offered at Molineux.
That’s not it though, as Juventus want a swap deal that would see Raul Jimenez move to Italy.
It is highly unlikely that Higuain will be keen on this move as he doesn’t have too many years left in his career, and lucrative offers from China, the Middle East or the US could be more tempting.
And should Wolves really part ways with Jimenez, who is one of the best forwards in the Premier League, for someone who didn’t have a good time in the English top-flight during his spell with Chelsea?
Gonzalo Higuain – Raul Jimenez swap: A good option for Wolves?
Gonzalo Higuain, in his prime, would have been a good option for any club to lead their offensive line. But when we look at an out of prime Higuain in a swap deal for Raul Jimenez, who has been doing well for Wolves, it makes you wonder if it is the right move.
Jimenez is currently 29 and is at the peak of his football career. He has netted 13 goals in 29 Premier League games, and has also managed 6 assists.
On the other hand, Higuain has struggled, and has found the back of the net just 5 times in 23 appearances for Juventus. The Argentine also had a forgettable stint with Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri last year.
A swap deal between the two would be a downgrade as far as Wolves are concerned as Jimenez is without a shadow of a doubt a better option right now, and probably will be for the coming years as well.
Though Wolves are interested in offering Higuain a three-year contract, the Argentine’s form is likely to go down the slope even more in years to come because of his age. But keeping in mind Jimenez’s scintillating displays, it will be hard for the club to keep hold of him for long, and that is the sole reason why the side could look at Higuain as a replacement.
Considering all the situations and possibilities, a move for Higuain right now would be a step down for Wolves. The club should look at signing someone younger if Jimenez does leave in the near future.
