Chelsea have done some good transfer business already under Frank Lampard. After signing Hakim Ziyech, the club officially announced the arrival of Timo Werner.
But looking at the way Lampard is going about things, it seems he is not done yet. After the German forward, Chelsea have reportedly turned their attention towards Bayer Leverkusen midfield ace Kai Havertz, as per Sportsmail.
The Pensioners will face tough competition for Havertz, who is currently rated at around £75 million, with Real Madrid reportedly interested as well.
Chelsea have received a boost in their attempts for the German though, as Bayern Munich have pulled out of the race to capture the young talent, and it remains to be seen how Real Madrid will approach the transfer window.
Havertz has progressed well at Leverkusen, and his arrival could further strengthen Chelsea. But the question is, what kind of impact will he have?
Could Kai Havertz make Chelsea title contenders next season?
Though Lampard’s young side have enough talent in the attacking midfield area, Havertz’s arrival could send out a warning to all of them as the German has the potential to beat the lot to the first team.
With the likes of Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley fighting for a single spot, Havertz will not have it all his way, but it’s his goal goal-scoring ability that could make him stand out.
So far this season, Hacertz has scored 12 goals in 28 Bundesliga games, and he has managed them playing as an attacking midfielder, false nine, and a right-winger.
Having made two statement signings in Ziyech and Werner, Havertz’s arrival would make Chelsea’s squad one of the best in the league.
They would be well equipped to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City, two sides who have pulled away from the rest of the teams in the league for the last couple of seasons.
Havertz rightly fits into Lampard’s attacking gameplay, and would add more goals to the team to ease the pressure off the strikers. The 21-year-old has age on his side, and the scope of improvement under a boss like Lampard, who played in the same position in his playing days, which makes it an intriguing prospect.
On the whole, the inclusion of Havertz would not only make Chelsea title contenders, but they will also equip them with the depth to progress in the Champions League, should they secure Champions League football.
It must be mentioned that with such a deep squad, Lampard will have to ensure he gets his team right, and play the right players in the right positions to get the optimum performance on the pitch.
