FULL TIME: Manchester United 4-0 Chelsea (Rashford – Pen 18′ 67′ Martial 65′ James 81′)

FULL TIME! Manchester United were deadly in front of goal. No one saw that coming. Chelsea didn’t play bad, but didn’t take their chances and were lackadaisical at the back.

With the win, United climb above Liverpool and are second in the Premier League table. The two Manchester clubs in the top two positions!

Thank you for joining us today. We will bring you more games live this season. See you next weekend!

90+4′ Another shot by Emerson. Shot with power, but again down the middle and De Gea saves for a corner. Nothing comes off the corner…

Four minutes have been added on…

90′ Yellow card shown to Kante for hacking down James on the left. When he puts on the afterburners, there’s no other way to halt the play, is there? The boy is lightning quick.

89′ Pedro with a chance, but it’s wide. Good play by Emerson, and his cross to find the Spaniard is a good one. Sums up Chelsea’s day really.

88′ Mount and Pulisic combine well on the left after some neat passing, but the latter’s shot is blocked by the United defence.

87′ De Gea has had to make several saves, but Manchester United, unlike Chelsea, have been mighty clinical. As I type that Greenwood takes a swipe at goal that is saved by Kepa. They all want one!

86′ Substitutions for Manchester United

Rashford is OFF

Greenwood is ON

Lingard is OFF

Mata is ON

84′ Chelsea win a corner but the delivery is well defended. The Blues keep the ball, and Mount takes a shot from the edge of the box that is saved by De Gea.

Another stunning area from United as Chelsea’s line is too high and Pogba is able to drive forward. The Frenchman’s cute pass nicely finds James, whose shot takes a slight deflection off Emerson and beats Kepa. Dream debut to score at the Stretford End!

78′ From one end to the other as Chelsea attack via Pulisic, but he overruns and loses the ball. Maguire then sets the counter and Rashford breaks with pace, but his final touch isn’t the best and he loses his footing and the shot isn’t clean enough.

76′ James gets the ball on the right and just drives at Emerson who manages to get back and make the block to concede a corner. James is quite a prospect. Lot of pace to burn of course.

75′ Rusty start by Kante whose pass is over-hit. Chelsea need to finish strong, and are trying with some quick passing. But they also need to be wary as United don’t seem like they will take the foot off the gas.

73′ Substitution for Manchester United

Pereira is OFF

Daniel James is ON

72′ Substitution for Chelsea

Jorginho is OFF

Kante is ON

70′ United were knocking it around with supreme confidence, but Chelsea apply the press and retrieve the ball. Fair play to them as the heads could have dropped. Cruel start to Lampard’s managerial career at Chelsea, but that’s life in the Premier League.

69′ Emerson takes a shot, but it’s over the bar. Chelsea are still trying, but those two quick goals have all but ended any hopes of picking up any points from this game.

68′ Substitution for Chelsea

Abraham is OFF

Giroud is ON

67′ GOAAAAAAAAAL! Rashford! Two in two for United! 3-0!

Chelsea lose the ball after the restart, and Pogba is able to ping a bass for Rashford who is through on goal to score! Poor defending from Chelsea, Azpilicueta especially who didn’t track the run of Rashford!

65′ GOAAAAAAAAL! Martial doubles United’s lead! Brilliant counter attack!

United break through Rashford and his pass to Lingard seems long. However, he collects it and finds Pereira’ whose cross is tapped in from close range by Martial!

65′ Chelsea seeing a lot of the ball now, but are not being able to break United down.

63′ The corner comes to nothing, but Manchester United keep possession before McTominay’s switch from the left to right is overhit and Chelsea get a throw in.

61′ Corner to Manchester United! Lingard does well to keep the ball and in the end, Zouma is able to get to away for only a corner.

60′ And welcome to the Premier League, Christian! Does well to get away from Wan-Bissaka, but runs into a standing and firm Pogba. To be honest, a lot of players will feel pain when hey get clattered by the Frenchman!

59′ There’s the debut most Chelsea fans were wanting. Pulisic will offer more pace and guile on the left as opposed to Barkley.

58′ Substitution for Chelsea

Barkley is OFF

Pulisic is ON

57′ Abraham is booked for a foul on McTominay. His trailing leg caught the Scot. Nothing malicious, but painful nevertheless.

55′ Emerson with a shot! Saved! Boy, this guy can strike a ball, but again, it’s at a comfortable height and is saved by De Gea.

53′ Pogba’s shot is blocked! Manchester United have done well to keep the ball in the attacking third and Maguire, of all people, holds it well to find Pogba. The Frenchman’s shot is blocked at the edge of the box.

51′ Yellow card shown to Jorginho for a foul on Lingard. Stopped a counter and took one for the team.

50′ Pedro tries a curler, but it’s just over. Good play by Chelsea again and the movement of Barkley and Mount created a bit of pace for the Spaniard to shoot. Looks like it took a bit of a deflection and is out for a corner.

49′ Good buildup by Chelsea and Abraham subsequently holds it up well, but his attempted pass is intercepted by Magure at the back. The former Leicester man has looked solid at the back.

48′ Yellow card shown to Jesse Lingard for a late challenge on Kovacic.

47′ Corner comes to nothing. No changes from either side. Chelsea did a lot of things right. Just need to repeat and convert the chances in the second period.

46′ Straight away, Chelsea win a corner and are on the front foot. Good start. Abraham’s cross is reflected by Maguire for a corner.

Second half starts! Can Chelsea bounce back?

HALF TIME! Chelsea made a good start, but Manchester United scored via a penalty against the run of play and are leading at the break. They have grown into the game and the second half could be interesting! See you in 15 minutes, ladies and gentlemen.

Half time score: Manchester United 1-0 Chelsea

45+1′ Chelsea try to string a move in the attacking third but Kovacic finally loses patience and puts a looping pass into the box that is safely collected by De Gea.

Two minutes have been added on here…

44′ Another near good move by United as the make inroads on the left but Shaw’s pass is just about cut out by Azpilicueta. Looking dangerous before half time.

43′ Sloppy by Chelsea as they try to break but give it to Manchester United. But the hosts aren’t able to make it count as Martial is quicky crowded out in the box.

41′ Nice build-up play from Manchester United who keep the ball and pass it around before turning the pace. Cross by Shaw is calmly cleared by Emerson.

40′ Emerson hits the post! Stinging drive from the left as Maguire and Wan-Bissaka misread a cross. Fell kindly for Emerson. Unlucky.

38′ Barkley shoots! Saved! Good play by Jorgino to play in Barkley who shifts it to his left and takes a good shot! De Gea saves. Straight at him, but needed to be saved!

37′ Yellow Card for Kurt Zouma. A nasty challenge on Pereira.

35′ Barkley with a hit! Just wide! Created a good angle from the right side of the box, but just couldn’t get enough curl to get it back inside the post and trouble De Gea.

34′ Rashford scores, but is clearly offside there. Looks like Pogba was caught late there, but the ref waved play on…

33′ Looks like both teams are now up for it and we could have a nice end to end game in the second half and the remainder of the first half. Manchester United with the ball…

32′ Mount has the chance to shoot for Chelsea but he chooses to pass and it’s horrible in the end. Caught in two minds. Chelsea are starting to find a little bit of their opening slickness once again here.

31‘ Martial with a shot, but it sails over the bar. Good play from Rashford to find the Frenchman, who could have picked out Shaw who made the overlapping run on the left.

29′ Better from Chelsea as they try to force the issue with Emerson on the left, but the move peters out and Manchester United break. Kovacic intercepts, but Chelsea again complicate matters with the lax passing at the back and United win a throw in.

28′ Good pressing from Manchester United as the Chelsea defence struggle to get it forward. United with their tails up here.

26′ The goal has given United a lot of confidence as they are attacking with a lot more verve. Chelsea are rushing things after conceding, and that has helped United. Momentum has shifted here.

24′ United growing in confidence as Wan-Bissaka makes a booming run on the right. His cross comes off Emerson and balloons up, but Kepa is able to punch and clear it away.

22′ Chance for Manchester United! The referee ends the play due to a head injury, but the move ended after Martial’s shot that is blocked by Zouma. Seemed like a nasty challenge from Pogba as his elbow was high. Had they scored, VAR might have possibly ruled it out due to a foul in the build up play.

21′ Shaky defending from Chelsea as they don’t deal with a set-piece and the ball falls to Maguire. His cross is deflected for a corner.

19′ Zouma has had a very bad start. Chelsea will feel a bit hard done by as they have played better, but there’s still plenty of time here.

18′ GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! Rashford scores! 1-0 to Manchester United!

Very well take by Rashford. It was Zouma who clumsily gave away the penalty as he left a foot on Rashford and made it very clear for the ref to point to the spot.

16′ Little bit better from United as Martial and Pogba try to combine on the left, but the former’s little flick is intercepted by Azpilicueta and Chelsea get it away.

14′ No real impetus from United so far as they have struggled to get moves going. They look a bit disjointed in attack.

12′ Mount has another pop at goal, but straight at De Gea. No shortage of confidence for sure. He looks like a tricky little customer in attack, full of energy.

11′ United just can’t seem to keep the ball. The hosts try to switch play from the right, but the pass is intercepted by Pedro on the right. Sloppy.

10′ Another half-chance for Chelsea! Good football from Pedro who puts a cross into the danger area, but Abraham doesn’t gamble and is half a yard away from the ball. Would have been a tap in!

8′ Pogba tries to thread a pass for Martial, but it has too much in it and his collected by Kepa. United need to hold it here and knock it around for a bit. Chelsea regain possession.

7′ Oh Zouma! Suicidal pass by the defender that falls straight to Martial, but the Frenchman’s shot is tame and Kepa collects.

5′ United need to calm it down here. Chelsea are seeing a lot of the ball and are very direct, most of the moves coming from the wings.

4′ Tammy Abraham hits the POST!!! The corner was partially cleared by United and it fell kindly for Abraham who smashed the post from outside the box! What a start that would have been for the young forward and Chelsea!

3′ Corner to Chelsea! Good driving run by Mount on the right and his cross comes off Lindelof’s head for a corner.

2′ Chelsea try to make some inroads on the left through Barkley, but Wan-Bissaka is there to deal with him. His presence will make them stronger as he is an accomplished defender who is also good going forward.

1′ Peeeeeeeeeeep! We are away! Chelsea are kicking from right to left as the camera zooms in on a serious-looking Frank Lampard on the bench.

Wan-Bissaka and Maguire make their league debut for Manchester United. Chelsea have Pulisic on the bench, and watch out for him.

The teams are out! Live action in a few, ladies and gentlemen!

Lineups to be announced soon…

The Premier League is back, and Old Trafford will witness the most anticipated game of the opening weekend with Manchester United set to take on Chelsea.

The Red Devils missed out on a top-four spot last season, and will want to target Champions League football at the very least this season. Chelsea, on the other hand, will look to achieve the same, and possibly even push Liverpool and Manchester City.

Both teams had a contrasting couple of months or so in the transfer season as Manchester United broke the record for a defender to sign Harry Maguire, and spent more than £100 million to strengthen their defence.

Chelsea signed Christian Pulisic in January and he will be a key player, but the transfer ban meant they couldn’t further strengthen their team. Frank Lampard has a tough task on his hands, but we could see a change in approach as the former star and club legend might give more opportunities to the younger players; something the club have been accused of not doing in the last decade or so.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could also give a few younger players more chances this season. Retaining Paul Pogba and David De Gea, two of the best in their respective positions, was imperative, and they have done that.

Manchester United vs Chelsea – Team News

Antonio Rudiger is back in training, but it’s unlikely he will start as Lampard will not want to rush him back. Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen could start at the back, as David Luiz made a surprise late move to London rivals Arsenal on deadline day.

In attack, we could see Tammy Abraham get the nod, and Ross Barkley’s experience means he might start in the number 10 role. Expect Mason mount to push the former Everton star in the season, though.

N’Golo Kante is a doubt, so Mateo Kovacic might start alongside Jorginho in midfield.

Pulisic is expected to make his Chelsea debut for the Blues, and he might feature as the inverted winger on the left-wing.

For Manchester United, the duo of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Maguire are expected to feature at the back straight away. Scott McTominay might get the nod to feature alongside Pogba, while Romelu Lukaku’s departure means Solskjaer might start Anthony Martial up top.

Martial was given the number 9 jersey, and will want to make an impact straight away against Chelsea. New signing Daniel James might also start on the right-wing.

Manchester United vs Chelsea – Predicted Lineups

Manchester United probable lineup: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Pogba, McTominay, James, Lingard, Rashford, Martial

Chelsea probable lineup: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Zouma, Emerson, Kovacic, Jorginho, Pedro, Barkley, Pulisic, Abraham
