Newcastle United have been linked with yet another big-name player, with reports claiming Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is on their radar.
The Uruguayan forward has been at the French club since 2013, but he could leave the club as his contract expires.
As per Express, Cavani will move, and the Magpies are one of the clubs interested in signing him. But, several other clubs are also keen on signing him, with Inter Milan being one of them.
The 34-year-old is PSG’s all-time record goalscorer with 200 goals, having been a part of the Parisian club for seven seasons.
Edinson Cavani – A statement signing?
Newcastle United have been linked with a few high-profile players lately, which includes Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, and former PSG midfielder, Adrien Rabiot.
Cavani would be a fantastic signing for the Magpies, who are set to have a huge transfer kitty after they are acquired by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
The experienced forward has been one of the best strikers in the world over the last decade or so, thanks to his phenomenal goalscoring record, work-rate, as well as his consistency.
Cavani possesses great strength, and can bully defenders when he is on his game. Capable of scoring with both his feet, the striker comes alive in the box. He can also hold the ball up well and bring his teammates into play.
The signing of Cavani would be a big statement to the rest of the Premier League as well as Europe.
The Uruguayan is a star, who could help kick-start a revolution at St. James’ Park. While he is in the twilight of his career, he still has a lot to offer. That he will be available on a free transfer would make this move even more feasible.
Newcastle desperately need a striker as record signing Joelinton, has had a miserable first year at the club.
Cavani is the kind of player that Magpies fans would love, as he gives his heart and soul on the pitch. The veteran striker could become a cult hero in the terraces of St. James’ Park, and is a player who would give the club a huge lift.
