Liverpool Interested In Premier League Midfield Ace: Right Option For Klopp?

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is reportedly a target for Premier League leaders, Liverpool. The French midfielder who moved to Spurs in the 2019 summer transfer window had a tricky first season in the Premier League.

According to The Independent, Liverpool, along with Barcelona and former club Lyon, are interested in the midfielder. But, the report further states that Spurs are not interested in selling Tanguy Ndombele, who was bought for a club-record transfer fee of £55.45 million.

The Frenchman showed glimpses of his talent but was not at his best in the 27 games he played for the club in all competitions. He was also publicly criticised by his manager Jose Mourinho, after a match against Burnley.

Tanguy Ndombele: A good option for Klopp?

Tanguy Ndombele showed great promise when he was at Lyon, dominating the midfield area with his passing and control. Good with the ball at his feet, Ndombele likes to move from box to box with his fine dribbling. In the 19 games that he played in the Premier League, he averaged two dribbles per match from midfield. The Frenchman has the talent and ability, and perhaps just needs a run of games and a degree of freedom to get in the rhythm and get acclimatised with Premier League football.

Liverpool have run away at the top of the Premier League and are destined to win it once football resumes. Even though they have been dominant over the last two years, the Reds will have to make one or two additions in the summer to inject some freshness to the squad.

Jurgen Klopp needs to sign new players, especially in attack, and maybe a few backup options in defence, but he has several players to choose from in midfield. Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have been solid in the middle of the park, while Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been decent, contributing with vital goals and assists. Klopp also has Naby Keita, who was bought for big money but hasn’t yet shown what he is truly capable of and will be raring to have an injury-free season next time around.

That’s five quality players for three positions. Klopp also has James Milner to call upon to play in midfield. Tanguy Ndombele, who has five years remaining on his current contract at Spurs, would cost a lot, as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is a shrewd businessman who rarely sells players for cheap. At the moment, Liverpool do not need a midfielder, especially one that will cost £50+ million.
