Everton have had a mixed 2019-20 season, playing poorly in the first half of the season, but changing their fortunes in the second half. The appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as manager was a big move by the Everton board, showing their intent at taking the Toffees back into contention for a European spot.
The Merseyside club have been spending big money in the last few transfer windows, and we should expect them to be active in the next transfer window as well. We could see a few players coming in, while some may have to leave the club as well.
Let’s take a look at 3 players Everton should ditch when the transfer window re-opens:
Morgan Schneiderlin
Former Southampton and Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin moved to the Toffees from the Red Devils in 2017 after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford. But, the Frenchman has not able to recapture his form from his days at Southampton at Goodison Park. Schneiderlin has not been a first-choice option at Everton and we could see him leave the club when the transfer window opens.
Everton need one or two quality players in midfield, and they will need to let go of one or two midfielders, and the Frenchman could be one of the players to get the axe.
Cenk Tosun
Turkish striker Cenk Tosun spent the first half of the 2019-20 season at Everton, but after he found chances limited, he went on loan to Crystal Palace. Unfortunately for Tosun, he suffered anterior cruciate ligament injury which needed surgery. The striker will be on the sidelines for a while, but there’s a big question mark hanging over his Everton future.
Tosun, who signed for Everton from Besiktas for a fee of around £27 million, has scored just 10 times in 51 games for the club. With the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Moise Kean and Richarlison ahead of him in the Everton squad, the 28-year-old will certainly be moved on in the summer transfer window.
Theo Walcott
After several years at Arsenal, Theo Walcott moved to Everton in the 2018 winter transfer window, but much like Schneiderlin, Walcott too hasn’t been able to show his past form in Everton colours. The winger has scored 10 goals and registered 8 assists in 80 games for Everton in all competitions, which aren’t great numbers for a player of his experience.
With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, Everton could cash-in on Walcott in the summer instead of letting him leave on a free transfer.
