Barcelona could move to sign young Valencia winger Ferran Torres in the summer transfer window, as per reports.
The 20-year-old right-winger is one of the most exciting prospects in Spain at the moment, and is being pursued by several top clubs.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are also now interested in signing the Spain Under-21 international.
The report further says that Torres is also keen on making the switch to the Catalan giants. The likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool are also interested in signing him.
Torres’ deal with the club expires in the summer of 2021, and he currently has a release clause of £86.9 million.
He has played 34 times in all competitions for his club this season, scoring 5 goals and making 6 assists. Having come through the ranks at Valencia, the Spanish winger has made 87 appearances for the club since making his debut for them in 2017.
What will Ferran Torres add to Barcelona?
Barcelona have had a poor season so far, by their lofty standards. The Catalan club need a rebuild – and soon – as most areas of the pitch are currently lacking in quality. If not for Lionel Messi, Barca may be further down the Spanish Primera Liga table.
The Blaugrana need to strengthen the wide attacking areas come the summer, as it is a position where they have looked weak following Ousmane Dembele’s injury.
The injury to Luis Suarez has resulted in Antoine Griezmann being moved up front, which has further weakened their options out wide.
Torres has flair with his dribbling and movement with the ball, but also the vision and ability to put in useful crosses into the box. Torres has averaged 1.7 dribbles per game in the Spanish league this season.
The Spaniard would be a good addition to the Barcelona squad which needs fresh, young blood next season.
He may not get a lot of starts for the club as long as Messi is around, but he could be a good option to bring off the bench, or to feature in games where Messi is rested.
Messi turns 33 this year and it’s quite certain that his game time will be handled carefully.
