Arsenal Expected To Make A £25m Bid For La Liga Winger: A Shrewd Move In The Offing

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing winger Ferran Torres from Spanish side Valencia in the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old winger saw a fair bit of the action for the Spanish side in the 2018-19 season, featuring in 35 games for the club – with a majority of them coming from the bench – scoring 3 goals and 1 assist.

The report states that the Gunners could tempt Valencia to sell him for a transfer fee of around £25 million considering there is a sell-on clause included in the contract. Arsenal aren’t the only side that is keen on signing Torres as the likes of Leicester City, Borussia Dortmund and Valencia are also interested in securing the services of the talented winger.

Arsenal’s failure to win the Europa League resulted in them not qualifying for next year’s Champions League after they finished 5th in the Premier League. Arsenal manager Unai Emery will not have significant funds to add more players to his squad for the 2019-20 season due to not having the Champions League football windfall next season, hence he will have to scour the transfer market for bargain buys.

Torres has played 53 times for Valencia since making his debut for the club in 2017. The young attacker has come through the Valencia academy, playing for the B team before being called up to the senior team. He signed his last contract in 2018 which expires in 2021 and has a release clause of €100 million which we believe is not expected to play a huge role if a transfer does materialise in the future.

Should Arsenal sign Torres?

Torres is a talented winger, who can play on the right or the left flank, but has primarily played on the right. The 19-year-old player is quick and unpredictable and is strong with both feet. He is a player who likes to take on defenders and put in early crosses or switch to his left and take a shot on.

The young Spaniard is a technically sound player who can dribble quickly, commit defenders into risky tackles, and is deadly on counter-attacks with his pace and vision. He also does his share of defending, often getting back to close down opposition wingers or full-backs.

Arsenal could use a player like him in the wide areas, someone who can counter-attack and quickly switch the ball from defence to attack in no time. Moving early for such a player can help Arsenal reap benefits in the future and the one-note approach of their attacking play needs to be given a shake for the Gunners to wake up from their slumber.
