Should Ole Take This Huge Call On Manchester United’s Bonafide World Class Star?

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United, could spend yet another season on loan with the Blades. Henderson is currently in his second consecutive season on loan with Chris Wilder’s team and has impressed tremendously for them.

According to Daily Mail, Dean Henderson has informed his teammates that he could return to the club next season if he is not assured of a starting spot at Old Trafford. Henderson is in line to make his debut for the England senior team after putting forth great performances this season.

The 22-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for Manchester United but has been an integral part of Sheffield United over the last two seasons, helping them to get promoted to the Premier League and playing a key role in their very good showing this season. His current deal with Manchester United expires in 2022.

Dean Henderson: Should Ole ditch De Gea for him?

Manchester United made a bold decision earlier this season when they offered David de Gea a huge deal, making him one of the highest earners in the Premier League. The Spaniard’s current deal expires in 2023, with United having the option to extend it by another year. The decision to offer him a new, long-term contract was a surprising one, considering his huge dip in form over the last two seasons.

De Gea is still relatively young when it comes to goalkeepers at 29 years of age, and perhaps has 4-5 solid years remaining at the top of his game. But, his errors – some of which have proved to be costly for the Red Devils – will worry Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Manchester United coaching staff.

On the other hand, Dean Henderson is a young player, whose stock is on the rise, and wants to succeed at Old Trafford. He is a player who believes in his ability and feels that he could become Manchester United’s No. 1 successfully. With Real Madrid reportedly interested in signing de Gea once again, Manchester United should perhaps cash-in on the Spaniard, and promote Henderson to the No. 1 role at the club.

While it may be a gamble for United as playing for a club of the stature of Manchester United could be a daunting task for several young players, Henderson should be given the chance to at least show what he’s capable of as he has earned it. It will also fall in line with Ole’s vision where he is more than ready to back young English talent and goalkeepers in that category don’t come better than Dean.

De Gea has been an excellent servant for the club, probably in their worst phase but a fresh start for the player elsewhere won’t be the worst option for him given the patchy form he has shown for a considerable period of time now.

Ed Woodward has made some smart calls recently especially in the January transfer window and United seem to be on the rise with players looking like they want to play for the badge and promoting Dean Henderson is one more ambitious and brave call the team management should look at making now.
