Manchester United Player Ratings vs Man City – De Gea the Standout Player Again

Manchester United‘s dismal run of form continued as they slumped to a 2-0 loss to rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Red Devils were outclassed from start to finish and barely had a sniff at goal throughout the 90 minutes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side got off to a disastrous start as Eric Bailly turned the ball into his own net in the 7th minute. Things went from bad to worse when Bernardo Silva bundled in a cross from Joao Cancelo on the stroke of halftime.

Pep Guardiola’s men did not need to get out of second gear in the second period as they saw out the game with the minimum of fuss.

A chorus of boos rang out at full time at Old Trafford, with pressure mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

On that note, here’s a look at how the Manchester United players fared in their 2-0 defeat by City at Old Trafford:

Manchester United player ratings vs Manchester City

David de Gea – 7/10

If it were not for the Spaniard, Manchester City could have led by double figures in the first half. David De Gea made a string of stunning saves to keep United in the game, but ultimately was at fault for City’s second as he flapped at Bernardo Silva’s tame effort and was beaten at the near post.

Eric Bailly – 3/10

The Ivorian’s own goal started proceedings for City. Bailly looked extremely shaky at the back and was subbed off at halftime as Solskjaer reverted to a back-four.

Harry Maguire – 4/10

Maguire put in another poor performance at the heart of the United defence. Looked a bit more solid aerially than in previous games but was still a liability at the back.

Victor Lindelof – 4/10

Did not fare any worse than the rest of his teammates, and was lucky to avoid conceding an own goal.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 2/10

The full-back had one of his worst ever performances in a Manchester United shirt. Was constantly caught out of position and offered nothing going forward.

Luke Shaw – 3/10

Was partially at fault for City’s second goal as he allowed Silva to sneak in behind him unmarked. Withdrawn in the 73rd minute after sustaining a head injury.

Fred – 3/10

Looked out of his depth against the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and co. and hardly made an impact in midfield.

Scott McTominay – 4/10

McTominay was unable to deal with City’s intense press and was often caught in possession. Spent most of the game chasing shadows.

Bruno Fernandes – 3/10

United rely heavily on the Portuguese during transitions and for creativity in the final third, and he simply did not turn up on the night. Fernandes was uncharacteristically sloppy in possession and cut a frustrated figure for most of the match. Also did not help out in defence.

Mason Greenwood – 4/10

Was starved of the ball for most of his time on the pitch and was withdrawn in the 67th minute for Marcus Rashford.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 4/10

Did not receive any service throughout the game and was left isolated up top. Forced Ederson into a decent save in the first half.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford 4/10

Barely had an impact after replacing Mason Greenwood in the second half.

Jadon Sancho – 5/10

Added some energy to the United attack in the second half but did not contribute anything of note.

Alex Telles – 4/10

Brought on for Luke Shaw in the 73rd minute. Nearly conceded a penalty for a sloppy challenge on Gabriel Jesus.

Donny van de Beek – NA

Replaced Fred in the 80th minute. Not enough time to make an impact.
