Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho could sign Bournemouth central defender Nathan Ake in the summer transfer window, it has been reported.
The former Chelsea defender has been in good form for the Cherries, which has attracted interest from a few clubs.
According to Daily Express, Mourinho could place a bid of around £40million for the Dutchman, who signed for Bournemouth in 2017.
Arsenal are also reportedly interested in signing the central defender, who has played over 100 times for the Cherries.
Ake joined the club from Chelsea for £20 million and has been one of their best players over the last few seasons.
The 24-year-old came through the ranks at Chelsea, but played just 17 times for the Blues. Ake, a Dutch international, has played 13 times for his national side.
Nathan Ake – Is he worth the outlay?
Tottenham are undergoing quite a few changes under Jose Mourinho, as they signed a few players in the January transfer window, and their spending will most likely continue in the summer too.
One of their most experienced players, Jan Vertonghen, could leave the club in the summer, as his contract with the North London club expires.
Spurs have mostly played Davinson Sánchez and Toby Alderweireld as the two central defenders, but they will need to sign a replacement for Vertonghen, if the Belgian does leave in the summer.
Ake could be a very good option for Mourinho to replace the experienced centre-back. The Dutchman is a ball-playing defender who is composed at the back, can pass from the back, and has the speed and vision to make key interceptions.
He is a left-footed player, just like Vertonghen, and he could slot into the Spurs defence and play alongside Sánchez or Alderweireld, which would give Spurs a right foot-left foot balance at the heart of the defence. The central defender is just 24 years of age and has the potential to be a top defender in the Premier League.
Ake is ready to make the big step up from Bournemouth to a top team like Spurs, and the north London club should splash the £40million that Bournemouth are demanding for him. Ake is a player that could form the foundation of Spurs for the next decade or so.
