Premier League leaders Liverpool could further make themselves unbeatable if they sign RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, with whom they have reportedly been linked.
The 23-year-old German has been in spectacular form this season, helping Leipzig to go top of Bundesliga.
As per Bild (via Daily Mail), Werner is keen on making the switch to Liverpool which is his preferred destination.
The report states that he has a release clause of £51 million. His contract with Leipzig expires in 2023, and the release clause will come down as he goes nearer to the end of his contract.
The German international is the joint top-scorer in the league this season, having raced to 20 goals in 18 games.
Since signing from Stuttgart in 2016, Werner has scored 86 goals and made 37 assists in 140 games. He has scored 11 goals for Germany in 29 games since debuting in 2017.

Timo Werner is perhaps one of the most exciting players in Germany, and even Europe. The German forward has taken the Bundesliga by storm with his pace, energy, and goal-scoring ability, which has led to interest from Europe’s elite.
Werner is a player with incredible pace and confident dribbling, while he is also a smart finisher in and around the area.
The German, who began his career as a winger, likes to drop deep to pick up the ball and run at defences, or get in behind opposition defences to cause trouble.
The 23-year-old would be a great addition to Liverpool and the signing of the German would make them an even better team than they are now.
Liverpool’s famed front three of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane are perhaps the best attack in Europe currently, but manager Jurgen Klopp does not have too many options of the same quality if one of the three gets injured or is suspended.
Klopp has good squad depth currently, but their attack could benefit with the signing of another world-class player – like Werner.
£51 million does not seem like a big transfer fee for a phenomenal talent like Werner, who could improve further in the years to come as he is yet to hit his peak years.
