Chelsea Have German Sensation On Their Potential Transfer List: Wise Option For Lampard

Chelsea have been linked with several players since their transfer ban was cut short to a single window, and the latest player to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is RB Leipzig’s, Timo Werner. The German striker has been in superb form this season which has attracted interest from top clubs, including Chelsea.

As per The Telegraph, current Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will be given £150 million by the Blues board in the January transfer window. Werner along with Lyon’s Moussa Dembele are the two strikers that are on Chelsea’s shortlist. But the Blues could find it tough to sign either of those players in January as both teams are in the knockout phase of the Champions League and the clubs may not want to let go of them.

Werner has been in terrific form in the 2019-20 season, scoring 23 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions, as well as 9 assists. Since joining Leipzig in 2016, Werner has scored 84 goals in 138 games in all competitions for the German club. The 23-year-old’s current deal with Leipzig expires in 2023, with the player having signed an extension earlier this year.

Timo Werner: The player they need?

Timo Werner is an exciting forward who has pace, dribbling ability, and goalscoring prowess. The German international has put to sword most defences in the Bundesliga and the rest of Europe in the Champions League and is ready for a step up to a top club like Chelsea.

The striker is a very good finisher and a threat inside the box but is also one that can link play between midfield and attack by dropping deep to pick up the ball and run at defences. He also has the ability to make vital passes in the final third for his teammates.

His pace and dribbling ability is a good weapon in counter-attacking situations. Chelsea should certainly have him on their priority transfer list as he could form a good relationship with their exciting attacking players like Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount. The Blues’s main striker this season, Tammy Abraham, has been in good goal-scoring form, but he doesn’t have competition for his position as Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud haven’t been very good and don’t seem to have any significant futures at the club.

Timo Werner and Abraham could fight it out for the main striker role, while Werner could even play off Abraham, from the left or behind him. The Blues will be eager to get back into the mix of things right at the top of the table and players of the calibre of Werner should be targeted by the board as they try to nail down a squad after a mini-period of transition.

Its simple, yet effective. A lot of times its difficult to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appeal more.
