Tottenham Hotspur could part ways with left-back Danny Rose in the January transfer window, with Newcastle United reportedly interested in signing him.
Rose is no longer the first-choice option in the Spurs defence with the likes of Ben Davies, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga ahead of him in the pecking order.
As per Evening Standard, Rose could be allowed to leave the North London club for a “nominal fee”.
The Englishman has been with the club for over a decade, having joined Spurs from Leeds United in 2007, and recently had fall-out of sorts with manager Jose Mourinho (h/t Telegraph).
Rose has made over 200 appearances for Spurs in all competitions, while he has also played 29 times for the English national team. His contract with Tottenham expires at the end of next season, and it seems unlikely that he will be offered a new deal.
Danny Rose to Newcastle United – Good deal for all parties?
Danny Rose has had a brilliant career at Spurs and was one of Mauricio Pochettino’s key players when the Argentine was in charge of Spurs.
The 29-year-old progressed very well at the club, but it seems like his stay in north London is about to come to an end soon. It is quite obvious that new Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is not a fan of the English left-back, with young players Sessegnon and Tanganga preferred over the experienced Rose.
Rose had publicly criticised Spurs’ transfer policy earlier and that may have rubbed the club’s hierarchy the wrong way. Mourinho may not want a disgruntled player in his squad and hence has decided to let them Englishman leave the side.
In his prime, Rose was a confident and quick attacking full-back who possessed good dribbling and speed.
These qualities would make him a very good addition to the Newcastle United side, which depends on wing-backs to bomb forward and add width. The injuries to Paul Dummett and on-loan left-back Jetro Willems – both of whom will miss the rest of the season – has resulted in a huge gap at left wing-back.
Manager Steve Bruce’s only options at left wing-back are Matt Ritchie – who has himself been out for a long time due to injury, while Ciaran Clark is a centre-back who can fill in at left-back, but may be out of place at left wing-back. Right-back Javier Manquillo is another option on the other side, but he too has suffered injuries this season.
Rose’s proposed move from Tottenham to Newcastle United would work in everybody’s favour and there’s a huge possibility that it could happen before the January transfer window shuts.
