Tottenham Hotspur Asked To Pay £30m To Sign Serie A Forward: Is He Worth The Fee?

Tottenham Hotspur have once again been linked with a move for AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek.

Piatek moved to AC Milan from Genoa in 2019, but after a bright start, his career there has stagnated there as the goals have dried up.

Tottenham are looking to add another forward following an injury to Harry Kane, and as per Daily Star, they have identified Piatek as a loan option. Milan, however, are unwilling to let the Polish international leave on loan, and want a fee of £30million instead.

Piatek’s father has often been vocal about his son’s intentions of getting regular playing time to make the Polish national team for the Euro 2020 in the summer

“Kris(zstof) does not want to be a reserve, he wants to be fit for the Europeans and if he can’t do it at AC Milan, he will gladly do it elsewhere.

“The club wants fresh money for new players. Many are asking for Kris on loan, but Milan are aiming to sell. I think everyone is waiting for next week, when his future is decided,” his father Wladyslaw was quoted as saying by Daily Star.

It remains to be seen if an agreement will be reached between the two sides, with the deadline day coming closer, and Spurs struggling to find suitable alternatives.

The main reason behind Jose Mourinho’s hunt for a striker is the injury sustained by Kane.

Though Piatek hasn’t really impressed a lot at AC Milan, he has shown promise in his other clubs. He rose to fame when he was at KS Cracovia.

Genoa were quick to acknowledge his talent, and Piatek wasted no time in lighting the Serie A on fire. He scored 21 goals last season in the Serie A, nine of which came for Milan after he signed for them in January 2019.

Though his form has recently taken a hit, Piatek has been fairly reliable in the past few seasons. He has also scored 4 goals for Poland in just 8 appearances last year, and his finishing is what set him apart a few months ago. Many believe that it is a temporary bad patch.

The biggest worry for Tottenham will be that he isn’t in prime goal-scoring form, and will be moving to a new league which will demand its own acclimatising time, so it might not matter by the time he gets in his groove.

Right now, considering his form, a fee of £30million seems a bit steep, but it’s his first bad spell, so it’s a tricky one for Spurs. Considering Spurs direly need a forward, a loan move would be the best option for them as a permanent move would be too big a risk.
