The likes of Marcos Rojo, Paul Pogba, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Eric Bailly are all close to their returns from injury with their comebacks touted in days and weeks rather than months.

PREDICTED MANCHESTER UNITED LINEUP vs WATFORD (4-2-3-1)

Goalkeeper

David de Gea was not a part of the United squad that played Colchester United in the League Cup, but he should replace Sergio Romero between the sticks in the Manchester United lineup.

Defence

Axel Tuanzebe played 65 minutes of the League Cup game, while Harry Maguire played the entire game. Maguire will most likely start at the back once again, with Victor Lindelof starting alongside the English defender.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was also not a part of the Manchester United squad for the game against Colchester, but he should replace Ashley Young at right-back.

Luke Shaw played 60 minutes of the Colchester United game and he should retain his place for the game against Watford.

Midfield

Scott McTominay and Fred were given a rest for the Carabao Cup game as Solskjaer played Andreas Pereira and Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park.

McTominay and Fred should return, while Jesse Lingard should play in the attacking midfield role in the Manchester United lineup.

Attack

Both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford started and scored in the mid-week game. Both of them could retain their places as the main striker and on the left.

Mason Greenwood started on the right side of attack against Colchester United, but he could drop to the bench for Daniel James.
