Matchday 13 of the Premier League concluded on Monday, with Aston Villa securing a resounding 2-0 win over Newcastle United at the Villa Park, and the fixtures didn’t cease to amaze as usual.
There were plenty of goals being scored by the teams and some flamboyant offensive performances were on display and here are the top three attackers of the week.
Riyad Mahrez
Owing to the suspension of Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez got a chance to start and he made good use of it as the Algerian international was unarguably the most lethal attacking outlet for Manchester City at the weekend.
With his tricky movements and lightning runs down the flanks, he caused all sorts of trouble for Chelsea’s backline, particularly Emerson and Fikayo Tomori, and never really allowed them to settle themselves.
Mahrez was direct in his approach and had 5 shots on target. Further, the 28-year-old completed 4 dribbles, which was more than any other player of Pep Guardiola’s side, and scored a brilliant winner to help his side bag all three points.
Lys Mousset
Sheffield United’s summer signing Lys Mousset continued his brilliant form for his new employers. Mousset was the engine room for most of the attacking endeavours of the Blades and impliedly, he dazzled against Manchester United.
The Frenchman bullied Phil Jones early on, playing an instrumental role in John Fleck’s opening goal. He questioned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defence time and again, forcing them out of their positions and eventually terrorizing them.
He went on to help his side double their lead after the interval before he was forced off by an injury in the 68th minute. With 3 goals and 3 assists in the last 5 league games, Mousset is quickly becoming a key player for his team.
Alexandre Lacazette
Arsenal have started to wane to an unimaginable extent under the tutelage of Unai Emery and it goes without saying that the Spaniard’s days at the helm of the north London based outfit are severely numbered.
The Gunners were bereft of their creative prowess in the final third on most of the patches during their 2-2 draw against Southampton and lacked direction. However, Alexandre Lacazette saved them from being humiliated.
Lacazette clinched a brace, including a clinical striker in the dying minutes of the injury time against the Saints. He was at the right place at the right time on both the occasions, and emerged as the silver lining for his side from their latest fixture.
