Foden To Start: 4-3-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Manchester City face Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday in the Champions League where a point will secure their passage to the next round.

The current Premier League champions defeated Chelsea in the league on Saturday and moved ahead of the Blues. Meanwhile, City are top of the Champions League group on 10 points from 4 games, winning 3 games and drawing the other.

Pep Guardiola’s men drew their last Champions League 1-1 against Atalanta but defeated Shakhtar 3-0 in the away leg of the tie.

Let’s take a look at the Manchester City lineup that Pep Guardiola could put out against Shakhtar Donetsk:

Team News

Aymeric Laporte, Leroy Sane and Oleksandr Zinchenko are not fit and will not be involved in Tuesday night’s game, while Claudio Bravo is suspended after being sent off in the previous game against Atalanta.

Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Rodri were all taken off during the game against Chelsea with Aguero expected to be out for at least a month.

The other two are fit and available.

PREDICTED MANCHESTER CITY LINEUP vs SHAKHTAR DONETSK (4-3-3)

Goalkeeper

Ederson will start in goal for Tuesday’s game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Defence

We could see Guardiola play John Stones and Nicolás Otamendi in central defence for this game. Benjamin Mendy and João Cancelo started at left-back and right-back, respectively, for the game against Chelsea. The duo could be replaced by Kyle Walker at right-back and Angelino at left-back in the Manchester City lineup.

Midfield

If Rodri is not fit for the Champions League tie, we could see Brazilian Fernandinho move from central defence to his favoured defensive midfield role. But, Guardiola may most likely give Fernandinho a rest in any case and play Ilkay Gundogan in that role, with the German having played just under 40 minutes against Chelsea.

Kevin de Bruyne, who has been the heartbeat of this City side, will start in midfield, while Phil Foden could also get a start in place of Spanish midfielder David Silva.

Attack

The injured Sergio Aguero will be replaced by Brazilian Gabriel Jesus up top.

Bernardo Silva was banned for the Chelsea game, which will keep him fresh for the mid-week fixture. He should replace Riyad Mahrez on the right, while Raheem Sterling starts on the right for City.
