Chelsea have reportedly scouted Lazio midfield Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, having watched him during the Italian side’s match against Celtic in the Europa League.
The Serbian central midfielder has been one of the key players for Lazio over the last few seasons, since signing for the club in 2015.
According to Daily Mail, Lampard could make a move for Milinkovic-Savic next summer, with the Blues manager considering the Serbian international as his “heir” at the club.
The report claims that the 24-year-old could be available for a price of around €60 million despite the Lazio president revealing that the club had rejected offers of around €100 million for the midfielder.
Transfer Market Web have reported that the likes of Juventus, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid are also interested in signing Milinkovic-Savic.
Milinkovic-Savic has played 175 games for the club in all competitions, scoring 33 goals and 23 assists. The midfielder has made 12 appearances this season, scoring twice and making four assists this season for Lazio.
The Serbian international has made 13 appearances for his national team since making his debut back in 2017.
What will Milinkovic-Savic add to Chelsea?
Chelsea’s midfield has been quite strong this season, with Jorginho impressing in his second season, while Mateo Kovačić has also been in good form, as has Ross Barkley. With these three, along with the ever-dependable N’Golo Kante, the Blues look good in the middle of the park.
But, Chelsea perhaps need a strong and powerful midfielder in the centre of the park, as the current midfielders are all quick, mobile midfielders who are technically good, but may lack a bit of strength in the middle of the park.
Milinkovic-Savic could fill that void in the Chelsea midfield as the 6’3″ midfielder is strong and powerful, with good ability going forward and in defence.
The 24-year-old covers a lot of ground from the middle of the park, and is quick and strong in attack and defence.
The midfielder is also strong in the air, winning an average of 4.1 headers this season in the league each game. Milinkovic-Savic is technically good, possessing the ability to pick out teammates with through balls, while also shooting from distance.
He would be a good addition to the Chelsea team and add a bit of variety from midfield.
