Manchester United eyeing a transfer for imposing Serie A midfield ace: Ideal option for Ole

Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is highly likely to arrive at Old Trafford in the summer. The Italian club are bent on settling the future of the 24-year-old midfielder as soon as possible, it has been reported.

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare is in London to hold talks with the English clubs and discuss the future of the Serbian International, according to a report from the Sport Mediaset.

The Serie A midfielder saw his price drop from €120m to €100m in a span of 12 months after a subpar season in the Italian top flight.

He managed 7 goals and 3 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions in the recently concluded campaign.

Good move in the offing?

Milinkovic-Savic is a versatile player who predominantly features as a central midfielder and has the capability to move up the pitch in a number 10 role if the manager requires him.

The Serbian International stands at 6ft 3in and his stature along with his technical soundness should appeal to a host of Premier League clubs seeing his ability to compete for a long ball from the back, capability of winning it and recycling possession to start an attack.

To no one’s surprise, he also possesses great physical strength and supreme aerial ability in the middle of the park.

The 24-year-old averaged 3.4 successful aerial duels and was fouled for a total of 0.9 times per game last term which highlights his excellent shielding of the ball from the opponents.

The former Genk midfielder also boasts adequate passing ability under his belt with long balls the speciality of the Serbian’s passing range.

He had a pass success rate of 79% and averaged 1.5 key passes and 2.4 long balls per 90 minutes across all competitions last season.

The Red Devils’ target is highly dynamic and adept both in attacking and defensive areas on the pitch. He also weighs in with goals and his numbers speak for it, which is decent for a midfielder.

Perhaps one could say, he comes from the same ilk as Paul Pogba and could be the perfect replacement for the Frenchman who is speculated to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Just like Pogba, he acts as the transitional man between the defence and attack and possesses the ability to drive forward with an eye for goal.

The addition of the Lazio man to the United midfield sounds like a canny decision and could be significant to the post-Pogba era at Old Trafford.
