In-Form Brazilian Attacker On Barcelona’s Radar: What Will He Bring To Camp Nou?

Even as Ernesto Valverde’s position at Camp Nou is under some pressure, Barcelona continue to scout for some of the most exciting players on show in Europe.

The latest name they are now extensively linked with is Gremio star, Everton Soares.

A recent story from Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona official Ramon Planes was watching Everton in Gremio’s recent Copa Libertadores clash against Flamengo.

Everton has been on the Catalonians’ radar for quite a while now but where does he fit in at Camp Nou?

Everton Soares And His Quality

Having made a name for himself in the absence of Neymar Jr for the Brazilian national side, Everton is a 23-year old that has consistently impressed in Brazil’s top-flight league.

He managed 10 goals and three assists last season in 24 starts and stepped up his game this season, registering nine goals and four assists in just 14 league starts.

A winger with a keen eye for a goal, the Gremio star can test even the best of shot-stoppers from different ranges and angles, while his pace with and without the ball can trouble even the best of defenders.

He usually loves to cut inside from the left, but is also adept at creating chances from the wide areas.

Everton may not be as effective in build-up play, but his quality on the ball makes him a threat even in games when his side is being dominated.

He is a match-winner on his day and it won’t be long before he plies his trade in Europe.

What Will Everton Bring To Camp Nou?

Valverde’s system at Barcelona has been exposed at times and the lack of plan-B in attack has often let the team down in recent seasons.

While Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann solve the lack of creativity from the middle of the park, Barcelona do not have too many options to add width to their attack.

Ousmane Dembele remains the only genuine winger at the club while Ansu Fati’s emergence gives them an option for the future.

However, they need a player who can make an impact on the first team next season and Everton seems fit for this job.

The Barcelona faithful may want a more established star to take up that role, but the squad at Camp Nou has enough firepower until Messi’s time at the club comes to an end.

There are very few left-sided wingers that can walk into Valverde’s squad, so signing Everton while adding a versatile attacker could make Barcelona’s attack complete next summer.
